Murray Hill isn't a neighborhood that you think of when looking for a restaurant, but we were charmed by this Moroccan/French spot that we went to after a trip the Morgan Library. Attentive service and a nice vibe accompanied very tasty Moroccan food. The menu has lots of French influenced food as well, although we didn't try any. Reasonable, if uninspired wine list.

This was a wonderful lunch! The food is Moroccan/French and beautifully spiced. My husband and I shared the mussels marocaine and the brochette d'agneau (lamb)--they were both finger-licking delicious! Then we had an awesome dessert--pastille au lait, which was many layers of flaky, crispy dough with a creamy sauce spiced with Moroccan spices--tasted like some cardamom and other spices. The portion sizes were perfect--so glad that the early dishes left room for dessert. Our server was a lovely fellow named Gary from St Tropez in France. He was very attentive and sweet. This was a perfect lunch, and we will be back for more.

The combination of great food and genuine warmth of the people make Barbe's the perfect place to relax and enjoy. The decor transports you to North Africa, and the menu has many versions of coucous and tagine dishes.

This is the second time that we've eaten at Barbes Restaurant and both times were great experiences...We did not experience the same issues that some of the others have stated...it was very busy both times, yet not noisy at all...the food was flavored just right and the service was crisp and very attentive...The price for a NYC restaurant is very reasonable

Restaurant clearly appeals to a lively, stylish clientele that has never had authentic Moroccan food. While served in a traditional style and a cozy, charming atmosphere, the lamb couscous lacked that unique Moroccan flavor profile and was under-seasoned in general, not to mention the fact that the lamb was as dry as cardboard...boiling chunks of meat is never a substitute for real braising on the bone. This, combined with French language misspellings on the menu, really undercut the overall experience. Despite the friendly, attentive service, I won't be going back.
