“Mexican”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2013

This little restaurant was close to our hotel on 10th Avenue. We went there for breakfast. What a delight. The food choices included fresh milk shakes that were plentiful, I believe the small was at least 12 oz. The choices of breakfast mexican style was varied and less expensive that restaurants a couple blocks away. The service was not rushed and the server was helpful. We ended up ordering take out the next day after seeing a matinee for our train trip home. Highly recommend neighborhood restaurant even if you are staying closer to Broadway. It is worth the walk.

“Great, non-fancy Mexican Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 December 2013

Coming from the west coast I have fairly high standards for Mexican food. I am regularly challenged with finding good Mexican in NYC, Tulcingo Del Valle did not dissapoint. This tiny little whole in the wall is nothing special in terms of decor, but the food is great. Try the mexican sandwiches and the guacamole! Cash only.

“Very Good Authentic Home-style Mexican at Very Reasonable Prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2013

Nondescript storefront belies the very good, authentic mexican food available at very reasonable prices. Great, diverse menu with pretty much all the mexican options you could want to choose from means there will be something for everyone on the expansive menu. A bit disappointed with the alcoholic beverage selections (only beer/wine/sangria) but there are a lot of traditional non-alcoholic options which was nice alternative. Beer was only $5. We ended up getting margaritas after across the street at Anejo (they were great!)

We had the fresh made guacamole - it was excellent. Ordered medium spice and it was not "hot/spicy" so if you like a little heat, get the hot. Also ordered pico de gallo - fantastic & fresh. Simple but excellent. Wife orderd the carne asada platter and was very happy - great flavor on steak. Trio of mixed enchiladas & Pollo encebollado were also very good. All of the food seemed very freshly cooked - nothing stored or reheated.

Service was very good but not perfect. Although only 4 of us, they allowed us to sit at the larger round table which was nice with winter coats, etc. Close to door - so very cold when people came in/out as not gateway. Our order was taken very promptly and food delivered very promptly. But it took a LONG time to get the check. It was much busier when we were leaving than when arrived. Not a lot of follow up once meal delivered - we would have ordered more drinks if had the chance.

All in all a very good meal. Appetizers, 4 dinners 2 beverages & 2 beers came to around $105 including tip. Would definitely come back again. Also - they did allow us to charge the meal to credit card - saw some posts that only cash but not the case for us.

“Neighborhood gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

Two of us, originally from the South West (El Paso & Los Angeles), had a quick dinner on Sunday evening at about 5:30pm. More than half the tables in the small dining room were full when we arrived, more than half still full when we left an hour later, customers split roughly 1/2 latino, 1/2 anglo. Only one waitress was covering the 12 or so tables, but we quickly had water and menus, and our order was taken w/o any finger-drumming delay. We had a large "spicy" bowl of guacamole and chips, three tacos de lengua (tongue), and enchiladas suizas (cheese filled). The pleasantly jalapeño-spiced guac arrived first giving us time to work most of the way through it by the time the other dishes arrived, hot from the kitchen. The enchiladas were excellent, the tongue a bit over cooked but still quite tasty. We live in the neighborhood so we're frequent diners here. And, we've yet to be disappointed by the service or the food. This is a great, family-run escape from the myriad tourist and volume focused restaurants 2 blocks east, on 9th Avenue and in the Times Square Theater District. The restaurant also delivers in the neighborhood, and the food has always arrived promptly (we're six blocks away) and still hot.
