Description: Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse. Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.

“New-york ambiance from the '40 ies”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

I was looking for a nice restaurant for my girlfriend anniversairy. I was seeking a place with a New-York touch. This splace was first opened in the middle of the '30, and reopened a few years ago by the owner of the vanity fair. I can tell you this place as a soul! Great decor and music, service was excellent. We had a drink first: the monkey bar martini: just great and well balanced. After, we had some amazing east coast oysters. It was so good we ordered an other round after. Main dish was an excellent Dry-Aged Bone-In Sirloin bordelaise. Even if I reserved by internet a few months ago, the noted it was my girlfriends birthday and prepared a little desert for the occasion. Wow

“Cool Monkey Bar New York”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

My husband and I had a fab walk along the HighLine and then headed to MOMA, but we were v hungry following our walk, so went looking for a venue and happened upon Monkey Bar on E54th. It is so cool inside, like a little hideaway. Once you do some reading you discover that it was in fact a hideaway for married men and their mistresses in the 50's!
Anyway, we ordered the Monkey burgers and sweet potato fries - yum is all I can say, It is very pricey for lunch, but for the ambience and people watching it's fab! Worth a visit.

An iconic bar that is fun to visit. Bartenders are experts and the bar food is wonderful. Locals enjoy it as well.

This restaurant was just a lovely experience. The setting is so gorgeous, and the place is just buzzing. The service was excellent and the food was great. It's not cheap, but a not to be missed experience!
