During our NYC visit we dined at Sylvias Soul Food Restaurant. For a Sunday we expected a long wait at the popular eatery but we didn't expect for our name to be completely overlooks from the list.

I went to the hostess prior to being overlooked just to see how far down our name was and at the time it was still there. However, I guess the hostess didn't appreciate my inquiry thus the losing of the name.

However, a very kind and professional Dominio (quite sure the name is mispelled) took pity and came outside to assist and immediately sat our party at a table. He was a great treat to speak with and should totally be recognised for his professionalism and and concern.

It then took our waitress about 20 or 30 minutes to take our order. Only for her to tell us in another 20 minutes that she needed our orders again because the wind blew away our order (we sat outside). This social butterfly needs to pay more attention to customers and less about picture taking of patrons. And we were never asked by our waitress what we wanted to drink so the complimentary glasses of water was it.

Finally, the food arrived. Very plentiful portions and quite tasty of the ribs, catfish, smothered pork chops, yams, greens and Mac and cheese.

The food was good but I caution you to choose a less busy day and give it a shot to enjoy the dining experience.

While it's great to hear you thought everything you ordered was quite tasty, we're sorry if you weren't as impressed by our service. Even though we can get pretty busy on the weekends, we want all of our guests to experience attentive and friendly service while they're here, and we apologize if you felt that wasn't the case. If you're willing to give us another shot the next time you're in the area, we're sure we can impress you with service that's as great as our food.

Wishing you all the best,
Sylvia's

Service was the absolute best, my best friend & I went after having a relaxing day at spa castle. The chicken & mac & cheese was delicious, however I didn’t eat my ribs. I will go back there but a restaurant that label themselves as a soul food restaurant should not pour bbq sauce on any meat. I like my bbq sauce cooked through my ribs not poured on. The coconut pineapple cake was amazing. Thanks tweety & the koolest dude that sat us.

Nothing better that treating yourself to some soul food after a relaxing day at the spa! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the fried chicken and mac and cheese so much. It's a shame you're not a fan of our ribs, but different strokes for different folks, right? We hope to see you stopping by again soon.

Cheers,
Sylvia's

Hi, we arrived at 12:30 pm for our Gospel Brunch reservations. Sat after a 40-minute wait. We selected outside, cause it was going to be faster service. We selected that area to seat, although Gospel music was not part of the experience. Ordered the waffle & basic chicken combo. Average. Just plain average. There are so many outstanding restaurants in NY, we won’t bother again.

We're really sorry to hear you weren't impressed with brunch, Deb. We can get quite busy on Sundays, and we apologize for the wait. As far as your chicken and waffles go, our team is always happy to help if you're not totally satisfied -- all you have to do is let us know. We respect your decision, but if you happen to change your mind, we'd love another opportunity to exceed your expectations.

Wishing you all the best,
Sylvia's

We’d read about Sylvia’s on a few blogs so we’re very keen to see what the fuss was all about & it definitely lived up to expectations. The waitress that served us was really friendly and happy to help and the food was amazing. We can definitely recommend the fried chicken, mash, mac n cheese and green beans. It’s also the only time I’ve been to a restaurant where someone has hoovered under my chair whilst I’ve been eating! We loved it!
