After dozens of trips to New York in the past 15 years, I know that finding a decent place to stay in Manhattan at an affordable price can be a real challenge. If you are willing to go with the "do it yourself" nature of the agreement (provide your own towels & amenities, no assistance on site after checking in) what you get for your money is well beyond what is generally available for the same price.
It is basically a private apartment with three rooms with separate locks on them. We took the largest room, which has a private bath. It was spacious and had great natural light. The fact that it was minimally furnished suited us just fine. We don't need a TV and the free wifi connection was quite stable - much better than the wifi we actually had to pay for at the Walcott Hotel across the street where we stayed a few years before!
There is a full kitchen but it is rather oddly supplied. Frying pans and plates, but no water kettle or mugs. There is a coffee maker, but we are tea drinkers so that did not help us much. Not a big deal but room for improvement - we bought paper cups at the local store and boiled water in a sauce pan.
Since the living room was divided off to be a bedroom, the kitchen is windowless and a bit uninviting. Guests would heat up what they wanted there and then take it back to their rooms, so we rarely crossed paths with others staying there. Fellow guests were relatively quiet, so it was not a problem, but if it got boisterous I am not sure the rooms are that well isolated, and you would be pretty much on your own to resolve the issue.
The reservation and check-in process was a bit unorthodox, to say the least: Pay a deposit in advance by Paypal and then meet someone at a local coffee shop to take you to the apartment, where you pay the remainder in cash. Asking for a receipt was problematic. Their command of English is not perfect, so the communications can get a little garbled and sometimes I would need to be careful to reconfirm what was meant. We speak Japanese, and the person who showed us to our room was also a Japanese student, so it may have been better to use Japanese (or ideally Korean) for communication.

We stayed in NY at the beginning of April 2014, and after firstly paying for the a different place, we decided to change and go with this one! Happy that we did as it was great location (round the corner from Empire State Building), very quiet and definitely clean! I would 100% go back, both to the apartment and New York!

This is truly a wonderful place to stay in New York. The room was large. The bathroom perfect. The location excellent. We were the first non-Korean guests and it is a little tricky to start but after that everything is great.

It's a good place for us to travel in New York. The location is very convenience that just near the subway station even it is in the center of Manhattan, So that we can go to any where fast and easy. The most thing I enjoy living here is looking the scenery in the roof. It's awesome and you can look around the whole city that impressed me .Also, the room is neat , new and clean and you can have a good meal in the kitchen. The next time i go to New York , I will choice the guest house.

Firstly, the manager is excellent! He took me to a great Japanese ramen place when I told him that I'm thinking a ramen for dinner. He is a considerate person who cares about his guests!

Secondly, the place is excellent! I don't know whether the building is newly built or recently renovated but it's clean! Also, it is right in the middle of Manhattan so it was easy for me to get to any place in Manhattan.

Lastly, the price is right. You save money on accommodation and spend the saved money on tasty NY food! There are so many great restaurants in NY.
