There seems to be a regular debate over the best pizza in NY. I'm not going to claim this is because I haven't tried enough to make a fair judgement. But what I will say is Lombardi's deserves every good review. I am usually quite apprehensive of over-hyped 'tourist' places but Lombardi's did not disappoint.
The pizzas are large which deliciously crispy bases, and the tomato sauce is intensely flavoured. The menu is small - a margherita as standard but you can add some additional toppings. We added pepperoni and mushrooms and it was fantastic- crispy juicy little pepperoni slices and lots of tasty mushrooms.
Price wise it is very good. They don't accept card, but do have an ATM inside.
Don't be put off if you arrive to find a queue - put your name down at the desk and they give you a little buzzer which rings when a table is ready. We expected a long wait as we arrived to find a good 20 people ahead of us, but we were seated within ten minutes and eating within twenty.
The atmosphere is nice - the restaurant is large, but the small rooms make it feel quite intimate.
If you are on a hunt for NYs best pizza I would definitely recommend adding Lombardi's to your list of places to try.
One small hint (and it might only be me who was this stupid) but make sure you get the right Spring St station...
