“Expert bar staff, excellent cocktails”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

We visited the Blue Bar for cocktails as part of a trip to NYC to celebrate a friend's birthday. "Disregard the cocktail menu" was the advice of bar tender Christian "And let me mix you a cocktail like you've never tasted". So we did. We were not disappointed! Great showmanship and entertainment-value plus experty-mixed cocktails made this an experience to remember in the heart of New York City.

“Still a great experience”
Reviewed 20 November 2012

Post-theater drinks in the lobby at the Algonquin is still fun. Drinks are pricey, so don't plan on more than one. The French martini I got very late Saturday night was still great. Napkins boast a great Robert Benchley quote.

Still atmospheric and fun. Should be done at least once.
Note: it's drinks only. If you want coffee, you have to go in the Blue Bar. And if you want late-night, it's not the place. They're wrapping it up at 1 a.m.

The Tea Room and Matilda the cat are still there but I just didn't feel like sitting down. The Lobby and front desk are still OK but something is missing. The 'homey' feeling has been replaced by a sterility difficult to explain.

“Worst cocktails in Manhatten”
Reviewed 28 October 2012 via mobile

$22 for an Old Fashioned which was as smooth as a lick of Tarmac and took the tender 22 seconds to make. Horrendous.

“Nice but expensive”
Reviewed 20 October 2012

I joked and told my husband that it would hard to be an alcoholic in Manhatten unless you are rich! The atmosphere is great and the music jazzy or oldie, but for two drinks, our tab was $60 with tip! A nice splurge but not something you would do all the time.
