“Welcoming Year of the Horse with Big Wong Duck!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2014

Boyfriend and I did some magazine research, looking for places in Chinatown noted for duck. This was one of them, so after the Lunar New Year Parade, we ducked into this bustling little authentic Chinatown spot.Crazy busy, rushing waiters, owners who are quick with a joke and understand English. Forget about deluxe, this place is bare bones. Food is the main event, and it does not disappoint. Delicious duck-ask for breast meat, otherwise you will get a leg-good mai cong eea subtl smokey flavored fried mail
fun noodle with beef dish. Lots of fresh ducks hanging in store window, beautifully glazed. We liked this place and were lucky enough to get a smaller table for just two-they are in the back.Bathrooms date back to time of Confucious, so it seems, so be prepared or go elsewhere. They are down steep steps. All else was fine. We plan to return.

“Usually great, not this time”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2013 via mobile

We usually love stopping by here for fresh, quick and excellent Chinese food. Not so much this visit.

The three star rating is only because we have loved the place before, if this was the first time here we would not come back and the rating would've a one.

We were seated right away, which is unusual. Once seated we had to repeatedly ask for a menu - this is after waiting 15 minutes in the first place. My glass of water was dirty with pieces of greens in it. The place was very dirty.

It took another thirty minutes for us to have someone to come over and take our orders.( We had to walk over to one of the servers and ask to order).

The food was ok. Beef Chow Fun and the ginger lobster dish.

“Big disappointment - dirty restaurant - aggressive, rude servers”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 December 2013

After reading some good reviews decided to try Big Wong King in NYC's Chinatown. Very disappointed and would stay away. I will keep this review short and stick to headlines.

1. Place is dirty - nearly slipped on stairs covered in thick, grimy grease on way down to "dungeon" style filthy bathroom steps from room where workers hacking away on food. Real turnoff. Forget this place if you have any mobility issues.

2. Food surprisingly bad. I have traveled all over China, frequent Chinese restaurants in NYC and San Francisco and was disappointed. Noodles on par with instant cup variety. The roasted "meat" was really "roasted fat"

3. Wait staff rude and pushy. In a time-honored tradition they played bring the tourist the dish he didn't order and charge. When I complained and asked for it to be returned waiter started hissing and arguing with me - so bad I started to laugh like it was a movie.

Couldn't wait to leave and won't return!

“authentic chinatown experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2013

So many restaurants to choose from just on Mott street alone, we turned to our devices to decide which one to try - Big Wong King came up to to top of the list, and since we were standing right in front of it we decided to give it a try - big steaming bowls of noodle soup on a cold and windy Manhattan day - just the thing. Try anything with the roast pork in it - superb! Great fast service, they bring you glasses of hot tea within seconds of sitting down. English spoken and great service, really inexpensive. A great chinatown experience.

“Excellent service and good food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2013

Excellent service and the food was very tasty, just a hint for those who do not like spicy food, when it says it is spicy it is really spicy!! Otherwise it was very tasty. Bring your own Wine if you wish and enjoy a good meal
