“Underwhelming”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

Service was very good, atmosphere pleasant, and the bread was fresh and delicious. However, the entrees were very bland, as if we had all ordered from a sodium-restricted menu (which we did not). The look of the food was appealing but everything was just so-so. We loved trying something new but will not return.

“A pleasant find near the theatre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

During a visit to NY and meeting a friend, my husband and I were looking something a bit different than a chain following a matinee on Broadway. When my friend suggested we try out 9th Ave I was a bit surprised. It certainly has changed over the years. After looking a several options we decided on Cara Mia's. We had a wonderful meal with a great wine (wish we could remember the name of it) The night's special was a seafood dish, ciopinno like, over house made spinach linguine. It was melt in your mouth delicious. We all finished every bite and all the wine and managed to share a tarfuffo. The service was wonderful with relaxed ambiance. We did not have a reservation but did not have trouble getting a seat (about 6ish), . By the time we left it was extremely crowded. An extra bonus was the presidential motorcade that passed by right before we went in. If you pick a time when it's not crowded it could be a romantic, special occasion place. During peak times it's great for dining with friends.

“Went again, pleased again!”

It had been a while but I joined a friend for a pre-theatre dinner --- Cara Mia is such a good choice for such occasions. Why? Food is always good, service is fast, even when crowded it's not too noisy, it's reasonably priced and it's a 5-10 minute walk to most Broadway area theatres (from its location on 9th Avenue just S. of 46th St). My companion loved his Bronzino and I enjoyed my paperdelle (spelling?).

“Great Up and Coming Restaurant!”

Great food, great ambiance, great service, nice people - what more could you ask for?

Came here for pre-theater lunch on a Sunday afternoon - sat outside in the back and had a lovely meal and overall experience. Great menu too...

“Good value, efficient service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2014

On a recent Sunday in NYC, we visited Cara Mia. We usually research restaurants in the area we are visiting, but this time we were there for a show and the International Food Festival on 9th Ave. we decided last minute on a sit down lunch and checked out a couple of restaurants nearby before deciding on Cara Mia.
When we arrived, it was quiet with only one other table occupied. The front windows were open to the street. We were seated and served promptly. They had a price fix menu that included an appetizer and entree for under $10. Three of my companions chose from that menu and were satisfied with their choices, panninis and pasta primavera. I ordered the shrimp scampi over spinach and I shared the pear salad which was excellent. Although it was on the small size, it was delicious. The only complaint was that the chicken parm ordered by one of my friends was thin and crispy on the edges. She left most of it on her plate. We were also given bread with a cruet filled with oil and herbs that was very good.
All in all, five people were able to dine for $110. The restaurant filled up quickly as we dined and was almost full when we left. We enjoyed our dining experience, but probably will not return because we only get to NYC a couple of times a year and we like to try different restaurants in the different neighborhoods.
