Two of us had dinner at Monte's on a Friday night. It is a small Old Italian restaurant in the heart of Soho. We had a nice dinner but expected more after reading the reviews on T.A. The bread was served cold - not room temperature. The caesar salad was fresh, yet the dressing was just ok. I had eggplant parmigiana and my friend had the manicotti. The eggplant was sliced paper thin so most of the taste was from the sauce. We both enjoyed our meals but there was nothing special about them. There was a screaming child at the table next to us and we could not so that may have been a factor in us not bring wowed by this place.

We love italian seafood and so we were looking for a nice italian style place. It is a smaller restaurant in a nice district.
Our waiter Franko was amazing! Thanks for a wonderful evening and perfect tasting dinner.

Little Italy is a smaller version of itself but Monte's Trattoria is like stepping back in time. The waiters not only know their stuff but also are filled with commentary and a vibrant presence that harkens back to the 40s, 50s and 60s. You expect to see clouds of cigarette smoke and see vintage cars parked on the street. The food is superb and the wine list both understood by the waitstaff and exceptionally underpriced by NYC standards. I had a blast and will be back. I wish I still lived here so I could happen by more often.

Visited Monte's for a friend’s birthday whilst in New York. The service was fantastic (Franco really made the night), the food was outstanding and the whole experience was well worth getting off the beaten track to find.

Franco really made the night special by choosing our food for us (there is a menu if you prefer, but be brave, you won't be disappointed). He made us feel extra special and made our friends birthday a night to remember.

Not too pricey - we paid a lot more for a lot less elsewhere during our stay. If you are in New York definitely look this place up.

To Monte's and Franco from the group of four (two couples) from Nottingham, England. Thank you for making our visit extra special. If only your taste in football teams was as good as your food, welcome and ambience.

Many thanks once again.

Wow..what a diamond in the rough. We were looking for a place to eat close to the "Comedy Cellar" where we had reservations in Greenwich Village. A local suggested Monte's.
I can honestly say that this was the best Lasagna that I have ever had in my life. The owner / head cook even came to our table and made sure that everything was ok.
If your in Greenwich Village, this is a must place to eat.
