After the red eye from California you want to find a place to blend in to NYC. If your in the Union square area there's no better place than 71 Irving Place. Today I'm here on a Saturday it's quiet w/a mix of locals just starting there weekend the coffee is wonderful and food whether sweet or savory is fresh and flavorful . On a work day it's much more frenetic but still a must stop.

This place is often packed and has a long line to the counter but it's worth the wait. We tried muffins and waffles and assorted cakes from here and all were really good, they have savoury selections that look good also, but we did not try these. If you are looking for a good quality coffee and snack around the Gramercy area, this is the place.

This place is great for coffee lovers. Clearly a hit with the locals. The Espresso was perfect! This would be a great place to read the paper and savor a nice cup of coffee.

71 Irving is one of my very favorite coffee shops in NYC. It feels like you've entered your grandmother's home. The coffees and lattes are terrific. The pastries, from cookies to the gluten free granola, are also delectable! Their prices are a bit on the high side, but that is expected given location and the ability to sit and spend a few hours with a latte and a granola bar pouring over work or a good book :) It just feels like the type of place that can bring out your creativity!

My only "problem" with 71 Irving is the service. The folks behind the register have a bad attitude. They do not smile and they are simply not cordial. Given the prices, I also find it shocking that they do not have open WiFi for their customers. If they improved these two elements, I would rate them higher.

If you are visiting New York or live here and Haven't experienced this hidden gem it is a must do! It's a little coffee shop on one of the quaintest streets in Manhattan, serving amazing pastries and coffee. The ambience, decor and clientele all make this spot easily the best coffee house in New York City. Not to mention celebs who like to remain understated tend to hang out here.
