Good authentic. Don't take credit cards. Happy to keep you on the door until your full party arrives, so they know they're popular. But friendly and the food is genuine American diner fare. Really enjoyed it.

We went there for Sunday Brunch on a recommendation. Busy as you'd expect. The staff got us seated within 5 minutes. The food was terrific. Big portions. Mimosas. Good coffee. Very prompt and efficient service. Very good value. Handy location.

Went here as a quick stop for some lunch and were very disappointed. Not only were the burgers dry and tasteless but you had to pay extra for fries - 15 bucks for a burger at a self proclaimed 'diner'? Secondly no where when entering the diner or on the wall does it state that it is a cash only restuarant, so when we went to pay we got a huge surprise and were told we could use there 2.50 per withdrawal ATM in the basement! They are just taking money from customers while providing bad service, overcrowded seating area and overpriced food.
Avoid.

My partner and I were excited to eat here for breakfast on the recommendation from Eyewitness Travel. However, the food was very sub standard. In particularly was the over cooked, limp and barely warm potatoes. When we noticed these were from a large pile lumped in the back corner of the fry pan, we weren't so surprised. In fact, not a lot of the food seemed made to order, but just reheated. Service was barely satisfactory with most waiters standing around chatting. Not impressed.

this is one of our first stops during our annual return to NYC. It never disappoints! French toast, omelets, burgers, sandwiches, salads, milk shakes... Always busy and always worth the wait. If you have never had an American Diner experience, EJ's is a must.
