We specifically stopped here to check out the story of the St. Regis & The Bloody Mary! Our bartender Angel truly made out visit! It was a quiet Friday afternoon and we had a blast listening to his stories and learning about the Old King Cole mural on the wall! Our Bloody Mary's were very tasty! Thank you Angel for adding a special touch to our secluded little visit to the King Cole Bar!!!!!

Dark, great drinks, enough energy to excite but not enough volume to prevent you from hearing your companion. And the Bloody Mary was invented here back in the day (under a different name - The Red Snapper) and its still top notch. If there is a critique, its that some of the wait staff are much better than others.

Starting at 3:00pm - 5:00pm - the King Cole Bar (Actually the Salon area located in front of the famous bar) serves tea. The prices range from $55-$70 per person, but we had just had our lunch elsewhere and wanted only sweets. So simply by asking the waiter, he let us order off the menu - the sweet tea service at $16.00 per person.

Modern - elegant - high style experience. Harpist playing background music. Upholstered banquettes to sit upon, crystal chandeliers, exceptional service and the most delicious desserts and teas. Several teas to choose from - black, green, white or herbal. We went with the waiter's recommendation of herbal tea.

The 3 tiered tray had 4 desserts on each section. Sugar and Cinnamon Raisin Scones served with raspberry jam, cream, and lemon curd - divine!!! Fruit tarts, macaroons, chocolate eclairs with delicate handmade chocolates on top, and more...

Dress to the nines to dine here. And enjoy a respite from the shopping as you envelope yourself in luxury at its finest.

And please note, this is a quiet, peaceful area, so please refrain from bringing boisterous children.

The drinks are at leaf $24 for a glass of wine or a cocktail so get out your wallet. It is a fun place to be- noisy and lots of laughter. The service is excellent. One tip- you can enjoy the same cocktails in the lobby outside where it is quiet and service is still good.

Get here early, i.e., 5:30 or you won't be sitting down in this "power bar" where the "Red Snapper" which morphed into the "Bloody Mary" was invented. There under the watchful eye of Old King Cole as depicted in the famous John Jacob Astor-commissioned wall length Maxfield Parrish mural, you won't see Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio or John Lennon anymore, but you will be experiencing the same atmosphere and likely the same mixologist fare as did they. (Check out www.kingcolebar.com for a preview.) There's quite a mix here ranging from "mysterious beautiful women" who come in by themselves and sit for hours (I wonder what they are up to?) to stereotypical dealmakers celebrating that day's deal closing. My wife and I came here every evening that we stayed at the St. Regis. The people-watching was not to miss. Leaving for our dinner reservation elsewhere was the hard part. If stiff prices for stiff drinks are not your deal, then save your money. Part of the drink price is wrapped up in the ambiance. You pay for that!. Service in a very crowded bar can be slow, but give the guys a break!
