Description: John's of Bleecker Street is a historic pizzeria founded in 1929 by Italian immigrant John Sasso. It serves quintessentially New York coal-fired pizza, famous for its perfect brick-oven baked crust and zesty tomato sauce. John's is still family owned and operated, and boasts such celebrities as Conan O'Brien, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Danny DeVito. In 2016, it was voted #2 in America in the nationwide poll conducted by MSN.

We were looking for New York Pizza. We were referred to John's on Bleecker Street by our Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island tour guide and were not disapointed. From our visit onwards, our definition of New York Pizza is John's and its impressive decor.

John's at Bleecker can best be described as an old school place.

We visited this restaurant at 4 in the afternoon and were lucky to find a table. It is a place with character and feel. The pizza comes on a medium thin crust and plenty of cheese. It’s a very decent pizza going on a search for. John’s does not serve pizza by the slice. We’d com back in a flash.

Nice cozy pizza parlor. Pizza was very good. Service was excellent. We were there around 6pm. Busy spot but really, we did not wait long. Would return anytime.

Sometimes you just want something familiar, something without surprises, without pretence, without drama. Such was the case Sunday night when we were craving pizza. Our sausage and pepperoni pie fit the bill perfectly. Add a house salad and a carafe of wine, bene, molto bene!

We visited on holiday, and the pizza was very nice. But I can’t get over the fact that they charged us £42 for two pizzas - New York prices gone crazy.
