“Mama Mia What An Awesome Pizza!”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Fun place to try new things. We picked several different veggie dishes, a cheese course, a couple of different pastas and of course a traditional margerita pizza. Everything was excellent, but the absolute stars of the show were the unbelievable desserts featuring homemade gelatos. Inventive olive oil gelato paired beautifully with a lime curd and fruits, lemon meringue light and luscious and the peanut butter chocolate concoction was decadent without being too sweet. Otto is loud and fun, but there is space to spread out and real elbow room (hard to find in NYC) at the tables in the back. Great fun family dinner. Top notch food and spot on service!

“Affordable Batali - Easy to get a table.”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Many tourists want to try the big name celen-chef restaurants, and they can be hard, or impossible to get into, and very expensive. Go to Otto, and go early, about 6:30-7:00 and you can sample some exception tastes and combinations (English pea, pancetta and mint pasta, marinated octopus, fennel and cucumber salad.) It is primarily a pizza/pasta place: Thin creative pizzas, small dish style pastas…parmesan grated fresh, outstanding bread with a good bite, excellent wines…. without breaking the bank. The place is vast, and yet charming, styled like an old, European train station - so you WILL get a table, and it's most likely a good table. Problems: service is hit or miss (I've been 3 times) and it is loud. Loud my very well be is my problem, the older I get the quieter I like it, but when I was young, it added fun and vibe. Your choice.

We were quite excited about this place as it carries the "Mario Batali" name.
The honest truth: the pizza and pasta tasted like a microwave dinner.
that's it. Just not very good at all

“Good italian dishes with a touch of Batali.”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

On our last trip to New York we decided to try some of Mario Batali's restaurants. So we choose Otto as one of the restaurants. I would suggest you make reservations a head of time as the place was pretty full when we got there. We had reserved a week earlier just to be sure. The ambiance is very nice but with the restaurant being full it was also noisey. We selected some entree's, pizza's and pasta plates and shared them between us four. We also had a bottle of wine that was selected with the help of a sommelier. All around we found the food to be to our liking and the prices were about average for the type of restaurant. The service was also friendly and helpful with explaining the various menu items. I would go back to Otto but there are many more restaurants that we need to try.
