the hostel was clean, the neighborhood safe. breakfast was provided, there was wifi and the possibility to print. it was only a couple of minutes away from the metro station next to the flat iron building. It was the nicest place that I've stayed in in NYC in that price range!

I really liked this hostel. Great location on the corner of 24th St 3rd Ave with 5 mins to the subway. Sites like the Empire State building and Flatiron Building are within walking distance. Lots of restaurants (esp Indians) in the area and also drugstores with all your necessities.

Hostel very clean. I love the kitchen, wouldn't mind to have my own in that style (wood and metal). A small breakfast is included. Or small - you can eat as much as you want from cereal, bread, boiled egg, fruit, jam, cream cheese. Nothing fancy, but you will have a good start. The staff is cleaning the shared bathrooms and common areas all the time. Spotless! And the staff is very nice.

I had a single room, which was a very small room with a bunk bed and a sink. Still, there were enough place to put my stuff away. Hangers and shelves - these things make it easier to organise yourself in a small area. There were also enough places to charge your electronic devices, something that is very important today. The wifi of the hostel is great.

The bed was good. I slept well. However, you do hear the traffic. I am not disturbed from that, but ear plugs might be handy for anyone who is.

The common areas are nice and there are PCs for the guests to use.

In general - I have already recommended the hostel to friends.

When I arrived at the hostel, there was a sign on door from the department of buildings saying 'VACATE, DO NOT ENTER'. The sign explained that'conditions in the building are imminently perilous to life and reentry is prohibited until conditions have been addressed, violators are subject to arrest'. Hostel is still open and operating, and when I asked the girl at check in what the sign was all about she said 'nothing for you to worry about'. I was suspicious and glad I only stayed one night. The hostel was clean but had a very strong odour of animal urine. I also stayed at the Chelsea International Hostel on the same trip to New York and really enjoyed it there - it was clean, in a nice neighbourhood and was slightly better value for money (and it didn't smell bad!)

As with many of the previous reviews, this hostel is in a great location. Close proximity to Madison Square, the metro, supermarkets, pharmacies and a handful of hip restaurants with raving reviews. The area is extremely safe.

Now to the negatives. The staff are extremely rude. This guy who fills in the night shift just storms into the kitchen without even introducing himself and just stares at you in the eye. Doesn't even say hello back when you greet him.

The bedrooms are not quite up to scratch. Sheets have blood spots on them, some are torn. The bathrooms have no ventilation fans so when you walk in after someone had a turn it felt like a steam room. Toilet was also clogged for a night and staff didn't bother to put up a notice so people walked in to find a stinking toilet with feces floating around.

Rooms are noisy as described by other reviewers. Sirens and crazy people shouting on the streets at 4 in the morning.

I wouldn't choose to go back, a disappointment in general.

Room Tip: Choose somewhere else, there are much better hostels in town from what I've heard.

This hostel was in a great location. Staff were very helpful and the kitchen was fully equipped! The rooms are small, as expected in NYC but you will not get better accommodations for the prices this hostel offers! The beds are not that comfortable and we were awaken each morning with a loud banging noise, but other than that, this hostel was exactly what we wanted in a budget hotel/hostel. I would recommend it to anyone travelling to NYC on a budget, because everything else is very expensive!!!

Came to NYC in the middle of winter. Glad I stayed here, located in a central part of the city and extremely close to the subway. There are a large of shops and food nearby around union square and the flatiron gramercy area. The hostel itself feels a little cramped, but theres free breakfast and is spotlessly clean. A bit quiet as it is a small hostel, but you really should be exploring the city anyway.

My close girl friend living in Buenos Aires Argentina, refer me this place to stay and I found all she said like the online reviews. American Dream Hostel is safe, clean and friendly atmosphere. Rafael helped my friend and to me with info for the best places in New York to go. Definitely I will recommend my friends and I will be back on December, my reservation is made for sure. Sofia from Argentina.
