Description: Bill's Townhouse is a new restaurant in a familiar space, opened in the Spring of 2016 by a team of folks who were longtime admirers of its inherent charms. Throughout a near-century tenure (and few incarnations), the three-story restaurant at 57 E 54th St has seen its fair share of history & reinvention. There is something special about Bill's that lends itself well to preservation, even in the cutthroat and unpredictable world of New York City dining trends and real estate. It's rare to find a restaurant that feels so comfortable in its own right and place - so written into the lore and landscape of a neighborhood that it seems it has always been at that address. (Or in simpler terms, it's hard to find a place that feels legitimately protected from a future as a Duane Reade or Chipotle.) Today, Bill's Townhouse serves Classic American Cuisine in the heart of Midtown and is kept up and running by a staff who strive to maintain an understated and unobtrusive sense of hospitality and service.

“Bill's is closing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2012

Stumbled across Bill's earlier today for a spot of lunch to find a party going on. Was told by the owner that the landlord has upped the rent hence the piano bar and all it's history was closing tomorrow (24th march). They are trying to find new premises nearby to relocate but the history is closing with the premises.

“A Must visit for a fun time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2012

This is a must for me on any visit to NYC. Good Food, great atmosphere, great service (sorry I can't remember the name of the sweet Irish waitress) and the best piano bar anywhere. In an old, historic, speakeasy where you're made to feel like one of the locals. Piano Player/entertainer Elliot Paul can play any and every thing you would ever want to hear - just telling him where I was from he launched into "Sweet Home Alabama", "Stars fell on Alabama", and any and every song I could mention. He and the staff make this a really fun time.

“Great Atomsphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

This bar/restaurant is FANTASTIC. Went here every night for a night cap, talking to the bar staff and to the owner who rembered us from spending time there 2 years ago. The food is excellent, could not fault it. Thursday nights are the busiest, we ended up sharing our table with a group of people who had finished work for the day and were there for dinner and drinks. We met up with some Aussie firefighters on another night, so the place was noisy and buzzing. The "piano man" plays every night and takes requests. Do yourself a favour and go.
