“Good place- Great time!”
Reviewed 24 March 2012

My wife and I visited New York recently to visit our adult son. We stopped here to see if we could get in for the 5:00 show and were able to get seated- $20.00 each plus they ask for $10.00 each in purchases- drinks, snacks, or dinner- not a problem. Our table was off to the side instead of a front view, but also not a problem given we hadn't made reservations in advance. The 5:00 show was Tommy Igoe and the Birdland Big Band. They put on a great show, going almost two hours, including a short break. I was impressed with how quiet the crowd was during the show- in terms of talking but the crowd was certainly appreciative of the performances. Nice place, good service, great show-- I recommend it.

This was a relaxing evening! We thought the price was reasonable as well.

“Wonderful evening”
Reviewed 7 February 2012

We went to Birdland on Feb 4, 2012 for the 8:30 PM show of Five by Five. The group itself was wonderful and the club is the perfect place for taking in live music. We were seated directly in line with the center of the stage and the position of our table really added to our experience. The club is rather small so there really isn't a bad seat but being located in the center we felt like we had the "ultimate expericence." The value for the cost of the ticket is excellent, we really enjoyed our evening!

“Jazz and Southern Home Cookin' - oh, yeah!”
Reviewed 7 February 2012

Used Groupon to get a great deal here last Friday night. More formal than the Village Vanguard or Smalls (the only other 2 jazz bars I know in NY) - rather than drinks and snacks, here you get a full plated meal, selected from a classic Southern menu (fried chicken, jambalaya, collard greens...you get the picture). Food is surprisingly good and the atmosphere is great. i was a little put off by the fact that most of the guests seem to be tourists (heard more German than English!), but that shouldn't detract from a memorable night out.

“Ridiculous value, amazing music”
Reviewed 3 February 2012

This was our second visit to one of the traditional homes of Jazz. On Friday evenings they have a regular spot for their orchestra, the Birdland Big Band. The musicians were nothing short of phenomenal, all being seasoned professionals, some even famous in their own right. It cost $25 entry and minimum $25 per table for food or beverage. A bargain for world class entertainment. (Last year we went to their NYE show which cost $75 including dinner and show.) The night we went Tommy Igoe their usual Drummer and Musical director was on vacation, but the session drummer, literally didnt miss a beat.

This has got to be one of the biggest bargains in NYC, especially for overseas visitors who dont have access to such a depth of talent at home.
