My hotel was near Roosevelt island so I decided to take the tram to enter Manhattan for the first time...and what a spectacular first impression I had using the tram. The ride itself is only a few minutes but it is cheap (normal subway fare or included in the public transport day ticket) and worth doing for the view.

You could take a train to Roosevelt island but the tram is so much more fun that's for sure!! For the same price as a subway trip, hop aboard and get some cool views of the city and then arrive in Roosevelt island and explore four freedoms park and the old smallpox hospital! Very different method of commuting. Everyone should try this!

Super fun ride to Roosevelt island. Great views both up & downtown. A big hit with kids and men as they both really seem to really love the cable car concept...

Wanted to experience the tram ride from the Spiderman movie. What a view and a fun ride. Very economical as well. The island is also a little oasis from the city with its' hustle and bustle.

The Roosevelt Island Aerial Tram is basically a cable car that links mid town Manhattan to Roosevely Island, parallel to the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge. It is the only commuter cable car i the US and it tales the standard NY Metrocard.

It gives an unique view of Manhattan and it is certainly worth a ride if you are in the area eg Bloomingdales or Rockefeller University. The nearest Metro station is 59th St and Lexington.

You can go for a walk on Roosevelt Island to Four Freedoms Park, usually quiet empty during the day. However being on the river, it can get quite windy and cold.
