“Surprising Comfort at an Old Theatre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2014

This review is strictly for this theatre. I went to see Almost Midnight yesterday and I was surprised at how comfortable the seating was. I was in the Orchestra section and the seats were more comfortable than some of the newly renovated theatres. I couldn't believe it. Because the show was only 90 minutes long with no intermission, they even let you bring your snacks and drinks to the seat. Staff was very pleasant. The restrooms were rather small, well the original restroom anyway. The newly added ones were slightly more roomier.

“Great Show!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2014

Went to the Matinee on Wednesday in the middle of that horrible snow storm to see "After Midnight". It was so worth it!!! Both Fantasia and Dule Hill were excellent. And, the rest of the cast--the singing, the dancing, the orchestra--all top performances. If it were not for the fact that the Brooks Atkinson is such an old theater, and the seats are so cramped, I would have given this show five stars. A "must see" for anyone looking for a nostalgic good time at the Cotton Club.

The show was actually surprisingly good considering I'm not a Beatles fan. The theatre is set up nice and cozy. The seats were a little crammed but if you go on a night when it isn't too crowded you can move your seats and not have anyone next to you. This makes it a little easier to spread out and get comfortable to enjoy the show.

“Jazz Club Feeling”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2013

The theater was nice. Seating was a little tight. I'm 5 feet 5 inches and my legs were really cramped, so come prepared if you are taller than that. I happened to catch the musical "After Midnight" at this theater. The dancing was awesome, the singing was ok. I only went because I like Fantasia. She only performed about 3 - 4 songs. There's no intermission for this show, so you are sitting for the entire 90 minute performance. I was expecting a plot and acting/drama, etc, but there was none of that. Only singing and dancing. Most of the songs were I believe Duke Ellington or Cab Calloway. I'm sure there was music by others, but those are the only one's I recall. If you like Duke/Cab and enjoy the music of that era, then you might enjoy this performance. The whole performance reminds me of sitting in a Jazz club and watching different people come on stage to sing vs. sitting in a theater watching a musical.

“Over Way Too Fast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

"After Midnight" was the best musical I saw during my recent trip to NYC. It takes place at the Cotton Club in 1932. All the songs are classic Jazz with staging and dancing that gives it a new vitality. And getting to see Jazz at the Lincoln Center on stage throughout the whole show was icing. Currently the show has Fantasia as their guest star and Dule Hill, from USA's Pstche, is the emcee. I highly recommend this show, because it is over long before you want it to be...
