New Vic's shows are consistently of the highest quality. Balconcy tickets can be had for about the cost of a movie ticket (really!) and orchestra seats are rarely more than $35 or $40.

If you are in town with kids (or even if you're not), this is a great place to take them to see live theater. Check the age recommendations on their web site as some shows are for the very young, some are for young adults and some are great for everyone.

My wife and son and I have been going since our son was 3 or 4. He is now 11 and we all look forward to the shows. Some are full of action and others are thoughtful. One of the best shows we saw was a walking performance of Hansel and Gretel where an audience of 100 walked through various parts of the theater (it began in the green room and ended up on the stage) which were set as H&G's home, the forest and, ultimately, the witch's house.

Check it out and enjoy live theater with your kids.

New Victory offers some of the most innovative and intelligent theater for kids and teens. I have been taking my 12 & 15 year old kids for the past two years and we have so enjoyed every single show we have attended. New Vic gets our highest recommendation for theater goers of all ages. Their website is very helpful too because each show has a preview video clip that you can check out. Ticket prices are very reasonable especially when you consider that this is in the heart of the Theater District.

The New Victory knows how to produce shows for children and their parents. I've been to more than 10 New Vic shows, and they're all interesting and terrific...some are off beat, some are straight dramas, some are acrobatic or like circuses, some use puppets and other instruments...and they shows come from all over the U.S. and the world. From the healthy snacks downstairs, the small, beautifully restored 42nd Street theatre, the show length (usually between an hour and an hour and a half, depending on what age the show targets) and the availability of booster seats for the smallest fan...the New Vic gets everything right, and its relatively affordable for a New York ticket. If you have time, sometimes the New Vic hosts workshops that complement the running show - whether its to teach tap dancing, juggling or mime - usually between the weekend shows (so you can go before or after.)

The New Victory is a great place to bring your kids if you are looking for something to do while visiting NY. We live outside of NY (In Westchester) and the New Vic is one of our top go-to places.

They constantly have some of the top children's and family performers from around the world. They have free booster seats for kids at every performance, and the tickets are pretty affordable. This past year we saw a puppet show in their smaller space, two circus/variety performances, and missed at least two shows that we would have liked to have gone to but didn't find the time. The venue is beautiful, and they have kids workshops too, although we've never been.

You should note (so you are not surprised) that all kids, no matter the age, need a ticket. (no free tickets for kids) They have an elevator with a stroller check on the lower level, as well as lockers. Also, they have recommendations for ages on each show, and while they aren't super-strict about it-- just be careful that your kid likes shows, so that the experience isn't ruined for everyone around you. My kid has been going since he was 1.5, so we know he loves the shows.

I stumbled across New Victory while doing online research for things to do with preschool/young school age children in New York City. I got tickets for the show "Mischief", purchasing the cheapest seats in the house, so that if our kids got bored we could slip out and not have lost too much money. We were so pleased with our seats! There is not one bad seat in the house! The show was tremendously entertaining and kept the attention of the kids, parents, and grandparents traveling with us. All of us laughed out loud many times!

The staff at the New Victory theater was friendly and helpful. I highly, highly recommend the New Victory theater for families with kids of all ages. Upcoming shows are listed on their site, along with recommended ages. Thanks New Victory for helping my kids to love live theater! We will be back next time we are in NYC!
