Simple place, nice food, good neighborhood. Try the pastrami sandwich. Downside: cash only, but on the other hand, it's not an expensive place.

This is a great place for breakfast if you are staying in TriBeCa. What impressed me the most was the welcome - very warm and friendly oh and the coffee was good too. There is a long menu to choose from. The food was good, but just good diner food, so we are not talking Michelin star here, but it is a diner after all. If you want to have non-touristy, real food, warm welcome, then I would definitely recommend the Square Diner. Forget those over-rated touristy places.

The location is cool, since the diner is tucked in one of the fancy parts of New York City. This diner is special because it reminds the guests what this area used to be like in the past - simple and blue color. The building is cool, kind of retro, probably from mid 20th century, and the layout is also old school. However, the food is average, the service ranges from a very friendly girl to a couple of guys screaming at each other something in Greek. All things expected at a NYC diner, but common, no free pickles and/or coleslaw and no water for the table?? That is very much unacceptable for a real authentic NYC diner.

We chose to visit the Square Diner as we wanted to eat breakfast/brunch at a traditional American 'diner', visiting from England. We weren't disappointed! Coffee was topped up regularly, our food was served quickly but made from scratch, waiting staff were friendly and genuine. Our pancakes were soft and fluffy, bacon crispy and delicious. Décor was fun and in the theme of our New York holiday. Loved it!

This place is amazing! In our four days here, we visited twice. The waffles and pancakes are particularly good, as is the Sangria (even if we did sample it with our breakfast at 10:30am)! Definitely worth a visit.
