“Great food, wide variety of shows”
Reviewed 27 February 2013

So, knowing that a theater is in the basement of a restaurant doesn't start you off with high hopes for the evening, but this turned out to be one of our favorite hideaways in NY. Located close to Times Square, the food is the same as upstairs at the West Bank Cafe -- which is to say excellent. The shows presented (sometimes two or three a night) can vary widely in quality and quirkiness -- we've seen some wonderful singers, offbeat comedies, and quirky revues, as well as some less-than-enjoyable acts, but the venue itself is always charming.

“Cute venue, delicious food!”
Reviewed 24 October 2012

The show is the show, so I'm not going to review it as it's always changing. But the venue was lovely and intimate. The service terrific and the food an amazing surprise! A very convenient location right on Theatre Row, this theater is right below the West Bank Cafe. I'm assuming that that is where our food came from and boy was it delicious. Also, the servers were so kind, helpful and accommodating. They were available during the show itself, but were quiet and inconspicuous.
There was a small cover for the show ($15) which was very reasonable.

“Not worth it. A few bright moments.”
Reviewed 9 October 2011

Beautiful little theater in the downstairs of a cafe on 42nd St. The star Bonnie Dunn is charismatic enough to fill time. The "orchestra" is a three piece piano, violin and drums that was a little odd. There was very little burlesque to the show, when it's heavily touted as just that. Its much more a variety show. The shining stars here are an Italian acrobat who is also very funny, and a bald, bearded magician (Matt H.) who made us laugh as well. One girl does all the shifts of burlesque, including hula hooping and is pretty enough to hold the crowd's attention. The absolute bombs are the "host" some kid dressed as an old man (Mel) and an insane sword swallowing woman who looked possessed. He just ate it from the first minute, drawing groans. She danced around and we prayed that she wasn't going to take her top off. $25 a head plus $15 minimum. I got some fairly stiff drinks though.
