Very small and old fashioned movie theater, not expensive as well compared to others. Good place to spend miserable day :)

Nowadays, film fans expect the kind of state-of-the-art screening rooms that are at the center of the Tribeca and NY Film Festivals. And it's great that such institutions are being built and frequented. However, there was a time when those of us who enjoyed art films knew that our best chance to see them was in run-down theaters like Cinema Village.

Even now, there are those films that won't make it to the main movie theaters in NYC, but what do you know? they manage to show up at Cinema Village. And of course being a theater that shows oldies, the schedule changes sometimes each day, but definitely each week. Seeing films there that you won't find anywhere else is not an occasional occurrence - it happens all the time! In little boxy rooms with seats whose padding has seen better days, yes, but it does happen.

Before I went to NYC I googled "things to do on a rainy day in NYC" and Cinema Village was listed. I checked their schedule and saw the foreign film "Lore" and was interested in seeing it. My husband and I went to the theater on a Sunday afternoon; I had bought the tickets online but there were plenty of seats available. It's a nice little theater and a great way to spend an afternoon...rainy or not.

This is a great little place; film tickets are $11 and the snacks are pretty reasonable too (just $3.50 for popcorn). There are three screens, the one I was in only had about 100 seats so it's quite an intimate little place. It's in a great vibrant location too.
