“Good Location But The Hotel is Terrible”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

Let me start by saying I am a Hilton Gold member so I have stayed a lot of Hilton hotels. This one stinks. Our rooms were dirty, it is clear they are understaffed or their cleaning staff is lazy. Being a big hotel is no excuse given our experience in enormous hotels in Las Vegas that seem to handle things much more efficiently. Given the size of the hotel they are under prepared for the crowd that stays there and might want to eat or drink something there. For some reason Hilton wants to subject everyone to sales pitches too for their vacation properties. Good grief. Even if you have to pay a little more to stay at a more unique hotel I would recommend doing it. I stayed here because of the location and that is a good, but will never stay here again.

We stayed for 10 nights at this hotel over Christmas. The room was a deluxe double. It was very spacious with a huge bed. I haven't slept so well for years! The bathroom had a large shower, towels, face cloths and toiletries replenished daily. Bedding changed every 3 days. We had read that the lift service was bad, but we didn't experience huge delays - we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria last year and ended up taking the stairs most days. The location is excellent, close to Times Square, 5th Avenue, with lots of restaurants and bars around. The staff were courteous and efficient. I would return to this hotel without hesitation.

This hotel's strength is in it's value....great location. It's a big hotel. The doubles are full beds, not queens. The walls are not super thick...we could hear people in the next room. The AC never got cool enough for us (IN THE WINTER, no less). Parking is a chore...plan on an hour to check in and check out if you have a car. My biggest problem is that housekeeping will consider just dandy to keep a 1/2 to 3/4 roll of toilet paper in your room WITHOUT supplying a backup. Otherwise the amenities are spot on and for the value, definitely a good buy...but suggest management work on the TP issue...that would be easy to fix by supplying a back up roll or two in the closet.

Overall, the hotel was adequate for the price and was well situated in midtown. The room, however, could use some updating and the room's thermostat did not work. We stayed during Christmas week and we had long waits for the elevator.

I'm in the city for business. My client secured the room via Priceline and sent me the reservation info. I told him I was bringing my wife and daughters to enjoy the weekend in NYC and could he change the reservation from one king bed to two double beds. He called the Hilton and they said no..call Priceline. I called Priceline and they called the hotel and they said no but we could get a roll away at check in. We figured our 15 year old could take the roll away and our 5 year old could sleep on the sofa if we had one. At check in we asked for the roll away and we're told the room did not have a sofa. So we asked for a second roll away. The clerk said ok. We went to the room, freshener up and left to meet friends for dinner. Two hours later we returned, to no luggage and no second roll away. We called and the bell captain said he'd have our luggage delivered. Then we called and asked about the second roll away and were told we couldn't have it because we had reserved a room with a king and hadn't told them we had children. Never mind that we had. The front desk would not relent abd could care less that we had 4 people and one bed and a tiny roll away. So we slept with three of us in the king. Next morning I was up at 6 to work and there was no hot water in the shower. $340/night and we can't get a roll away or a hot shower? I'd expect to get this treatment at a $70 motel..not at the Hilton in Manhattan. Overpriced. Poor customer service. You can do better elsewhere.

I've stayed at the New York Hilton many times over the years, and this visit was better than I expected, with very nice room, comfortable bed, excellent service from the staff and very good quality food (both room service as well as at the restaurants/bars on 2nd floor). I stayed here because the conference I was attending was here, but was pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the room, and helpfulness of the staff.

Room Tip: I generally like a higher floor to get away from the noise of NYC, and close to the elevator but not...

Our recent stay at the New York Hilton, Avenue of the America's ( Midtown) was disappointing for several reasons.
While booking, I was offered the possibility of a upgrade, for a fee of course. When checking in we were offered the upgrade to the executive concierge level, which we accepted, but when we got to the room on the 39th floor, we found the room dull, dingy, dirty carpet, old unimpressive furniture. To make matters worse, the lounge was on the lobby level! Naturally we asked to be moved to a room that was refurbished. So for a different fee, we settled in to a very pleasant renovated room on the 15th floor. The fact that there was no in room coffee maker, and that there is a ridiculous fee for wifi was annoying, but after the room debacle, those items seemed small fry.
We are Hilton hhonors members and always tried to utilize Hilton properties while traveling, this experience has caused me to switch to Marriott.
