“Brilliant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2013 via mobile

An absolutely brilliant hotel on all counts:

Location - wont find better, seconds from Times Square but just far enough to avoid the noise, if you can ever really do this in NYC. 5th Avenue, Broadway, Theatres, Bus Tours, Restaurants and Bars are every which way you turnout of the front door.

Rooms - our group had a mix of Deluxe and Executive rooms - 7 of them! We found all to be very clean, very spacious and with great facilities.

Service - we found John Paul, the Conceirge, to be very helpful, sorting out anything we wanted. Danny out front was also very helpful and John the Front Office Manager was absolutely brilliant before, during and after we had stayed.

Rates - don't expect to stay for cheap in NYC, at least not if you want comfort! And I am happy to say this is mid-range price with top-end service.

Well done guys, keep up the good work, thanks!

The rooms are small but efficient. The location can't be beat being a block from Times Square but far enough away to not have the loudness and craziness! We're here for 10 days and the room did get a bit dirty after several days of linen service only but they at least cleaned it when we asked. I'd stay here again.

Not the type of hotel I am use too. I was not paying so no complaints. Ca
Led ahead and discovered the typical new York issues are here although the website photos may suggest otherwise. Rooms are tiny, many have interior (brick) views. The lovely photos on the website is the presidential suite only. Reservations confirmed many people are surprised when they actually see their room. Hotel is tiny like a doll house in every way. Rooms seem clean, toiletries are good. Upgraded to a suite to have a little room to spread out. Furnace did not work in the living room so after some "work" to get a hold of the manager "John" really seemed to care and offered take the extra suite upgrade charge off or move me to the presidential. I was satisfied with this and it seemed fair. Washrooms are small of course, as I was travelling alone it was not a big issue. Front desk was friendly but at times seemed a little over their heads. The restaurant located next door for breakfast was very nice and overall nicer than the hotel itself.

Room Tip: Ask more a recently remodeled room with a view. Ensure the furnace is working before you unpack.

Mela is a functional hotel - its purpose is attend your travel needs - nothing less, nothing more.
The room was the right size for someone that wants to enjoy NYC and just want to sleep in a clean room and a good bed, after exploring the city.
If you want to stay at the hotel, this is not a good choice. The bathroom has a good size and the shower is very nice.
You can have wireless internet for free and you can use the computers facilities to do your flight check-in at not cost.
The staff is cool and tries to help you all the time.

Room Tip: I've read some complaints about noisy rooms but ours was zero sound.

central location in Times Square.rooms first class and serviced daily.only drawback was no central lighting in bedroom, but ancilliary lights were o.kwould reccommend to friends.friendly staff who were really helpful with telephone &internet info for a pair of seniors who are not very au fait with telecommunition.

Room Tip: higher floors have less a/c unit noise

We stayed here for 6 nights recently. The hotel itself is very well located, literally only steps from times Square, which is very handy for shows, night-life etc.

We checked in very late on Friday night and when we got to our room i couldn't find the safe. I thought this was just because I was tired but a full check the next day showed no safe. I reported this to the front desk twice the next day and they advised they would have an engineer look at this ASAP. As a result I had to leave some items at the front desk when we were going out which was not ideal. The next day the problem was still not resolved and it was only after another call and personal visit to the front desk that it was resolved and a new safe was installed. I also had to call twice for a plumber to be sent to our room to fix the toilet (after housekeeping ignored our note). These experiences would indicate that the hotel are not very efficient at resolving problems for guests.

The room itself was perfectly fine, if a little small. Bed was comfy, shower was good and had good toiletries provided.

The hotel has no bar or restaurant itself, although there are some next door. Mini=bar is electronically activated so if you move something it charges you. Prices were very high for this as well.

I do not think i would stay here again as I think there are better hotels for the money in New York and would describe it overall as average.

Great location to see everything. The room was very clean with very comfortable bed. The staff was very friendly. I had a very good time in New York and would stay at this hotel again. The wireless internet was not strong enough and hope they get a better system. They did offer to move us closer to the modem but we were not willing to move because we were to busy having fun. I used the hot spot on my phone.

Room Tip: Request room close to wireless if getting on the internet is important to you.
