As regular Fairway shoppers (that's a supermarket in the NY metro area if you're not from this region) we've passed Dinosaur BBQ countless times but never stopped in. But now that we have we love it! We decided to drop in on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend for an early dinner after a Fairway run. Perhaps not the smartest idea given how crowded it was. There was an hour-long wait, so we ordered from their takeout window and had dinner at one of their outdoor picnic tables. FYI, the Hudson River is a block to the west so you can have a picnic there just as easily.
Well, let me tell you, the food was delicious and definitely worthy of the long lines. I had the chicken and rib combo and my husband had the pulled pork sandwich. Mine came with two sides, so I tried the mac 'n cheese and collard greens. I may be wrong but think their BBQ is "Memphis" style. The BBQ sauce is tangy and finger-licking sticky, just as it should be. They have a full bar and a great beer menu including a category called "Your Father's Fridge," where Budweiser and Schlitz reign supreme over more trendy craft beers.
We liked the restaurant so much that we had dinner there this past Friday after another grocery run. Are you sensing a pattern here? This time it was before 6 PM and there was still a 20 minute wait. We opted instead to dine in the bar, which has full wait service at the high-tops. The food, I'm happy to report, was just as good as our first visit. Good all year round, but definitely a fun summertime restaurant. Another tip. . .they do take reservations but book up about a month in advance.
