“Beautiful property”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

We occupied a two bedroom suite for five nights over Spring Break, and my parents had a room down the hall. Both were beautifully decorated in purple and silver art deco. The service was good, but slow. Room service took over an hour. And the bar in the lobby was so packed after work that it was hard to find a place to sit, much less get a server when you needed them. The drinks were $20+ each, so beware. But the hotel sits in Manhattan, right?

The location was excellent and the luxurious decor guarantees that we will stay at this property again.

Room Tip: The corner two bedroom suite offers a view of the Hudson down the street.

We recently stayed at The London Hotel for a weekend to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We have stayed here before and love the hotel and the location. We were there for just two nights so were hardly in the room as we fit a lot into just a weekend including venturing to Queens to visit my husband's family. We really appreciated being greeted at check in with anniversay good wishes and being able to check in early. Within 15 minutes of being in the room, we noticed a loud mechanical noise that sounded like drilling. It sounded like it was over the bathroom but it could be heard throughout the room. We were headed out so weren't too worried about it. We thought there must be repair or construction somewhere in the property and that it wouldn't bother us as we would be out most of the day. The manager left a bottle of champagne in our room by Friday night and we really appreciated the special touch. We celebrated our anniversary Saturday night and returned late to the room. We were looking forward to sleeping in as our flight out on Sunday was later and check out wasn't until noon. We were abruptly awakened at 5:00 a.m. by the mechanical noise. If it were from drilling we certainly didn't expect it at that time on a Sunday morning. The noise was unpredictable and continued intermittently. We never got back to sleep and were exhausted for the trip home. The hotel, guest room and service were all great. The location is great with an easy walk to Central Park and Times Square. We would stay here again but would speak up about an issue like the noise right away to try to resolve it before letting it ruin the last night of our trip.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying in an Vista Suite on the 45th floor. Our suite was well proportioned and had panoramic views of Central Park, The Hudson, and of the City. The suite was clean and roomy, with a good quality bathroom and a very comfortable bed. As several people have already stated in previous comments the soundproofing is also very good.
The hotel is well situated and very central. 10 minute walk to 5th Avenue, Time Square, and Central Park.
We found the staff at the hotel to be very good. In particular the Concierge (Rafael) was very good. We were mixing business with pleasure while staying at The London and found a need to print off LOTS of paperwork in preparation for business meetings. Each time Rafael was happy to help! It really did feel like he couldn't do enough for us! - He also got us a last minute booking at a fantastic restaurant called Marea. (I will review that too)
We did have a tiny issue when we checked out which I will mention, although it wasn't a real hassle. When we booked our stay (direct with the hotel) we opted for a breakfast package $70 per night extra) - upon arriving at the hotel we discovered that the breakfast doesn't cater for Gluten Free diets. Therefore we cancelled the breakfast for our whole stay. When we came to check out we were told that although we cancelled we would still have to pay for it! - We spoke to the manager who we didn't feel was overly helpful to start with. However, he did remove the breakfast charge from our bill after are rather awkward conversation! - I think he could have handled it better being as we spent 8 nights in the hotel and spent a fair amount of money.
All this said, we would recommend The London to anybody, and will certainly stay again when we are next in New York. We have previously stayed in the W on Lexington Avenue, and it was not a patch on The London!

Room Tip: Our room was 4501 and was fantastic. Great views and well laid out!

I am generally very brand loyal and I had passed up opportunities to stay at the New London in the past in order to show loyalty to my trusty hotel affinity partner. Boy was I missing out on a great thing!

The Hotel London offers exceptional accommodations and impeccable customer service. The rooms were well appointed, generously sized (all the rooms are suites), and the art deco/new era decor creates the perfect ambiance. The hotel staff members are extremely courteous and they go out of their way to show their appreciation for your business.

I have found a new brand to be loyal to when I am staying in the city. The London NYC lives up to its reputation for excellence!

Room Tip: If you are traveling with the family, this hotel room offers a good option for families with 1 or 2...

Being so small, it’s a wonder how there’s enough room on Manhattan for many hotels, but once you’ve stayed in one, you realise, it’s accomplished through making them so very compact. The London is one great example, where you’re barely off the street before you’re confronted by the Reception area - behind which are the lifts. How ever many lifts there are (I think it’s 6), are divided between those that visit floors 1-25 and those that only venture to stop higher. Let’s not get stuck in the detail here – the fact is there are 1 or 2 too few, and we’re all busy people and need a lift NOW!
The staff are very welcoming and appear more than used to accepting the famous and well-heeled so it’s understandable that they never lower their heads enough to notice the occasional child. I think the presence of ours unnerved them a little.
Our first room was a suite with an added interconnecting room for the children. I think the term “compact” was a little too forcibly applied here in that the “suite” part of the room was a corridor containing a couch, and a unit between which one had to negotiate a route carefully to arrive in either bedroom unscathed.
This must be a common issue as our call to Guest Services resulted in much understanding and a move to another “suite” with a bright airy “lounge” and enough freedom to move unhindered.
Like the first suite, the bathroom was “interesting” in that two could shower in parallel as the long, narrow room had a single l-o-n-g shower unit with a head and fittings at each end. With my wife down one end, and me at the other, it was probably not unlike a Star Trek moment where we were both waiting to be beamed up.
We actually loved the hotel, it’s position, staff and quirky showers. The room was (by NYC standards) spacious and relaxing. We also loved the inclusion of Wifi and the fear of unhidden charges. Would definitely re-visit, if for no other reason to re-experience the showers.

I have now stayed at the London NYC half a dozen times over the past year, and it has become my preferred hotel for business trips to NY. The location is extremely convenient for midtown business (and would be equally good for shopping and theatres), the rooms are impressively large and comfortable, particularly by NYC standards, with separate work/sitting and sleeping areas, and the bathrooms are equally well-proportioned with good amenities and strong, hot showers. The breakfast buffet has a good selection of options, although (as usual in NY) it is expensive for what you get. At night the breakfast room becomes a very appealing bar; while there isn't a great buzz, it is a nice and not overly crowded place for a well-made pre- or post-dinner libation. Staff are generally friendly and professional, although the doormen are some of the pushiest I have encountered in terms of making it clear that they expect tips for every service rendered (flagging a cab, unloading luggage from a car and giving it to the bellboy - who then also expects his own tip, etc). I have also found it difficult on occasion to get a booking at the hotel restaurant, even as a guest of the hotel, which is always annoying. These minor issues aside, however, the London NYC is a top choice for business trips to the City and presents a very reasonable price/quality equation.
