“Great, reasonable mid town hotel”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

We spent a long weekend at the London recently and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are spacious by New York standards and very comfortable. Great showers. A great location on 54th st and the staff is very accommodating. The lobby is small and there is nowhere to sit if you are waiting for someone (a minor issue). I would definitely go back and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views.

Stayed at a The London NYC in March, proposed to my boyfriend here and the Hotel were amazing, it was planned for months and the staff were with me every step of the way. They even arranged free champagne in my room, once the deed was done.

The Vista Suite we had was amazing huge bed, separate lounge and stunning bathroom. My partner likes a big bath I prefer a shower - we had both!!

I can't fault any part of the The London, the staff are all kind and helpful, the concierge are outstanding, arranging restaurant bookings in places we would never eat in to booking and arranging amazing limo car services to and from JFK for us. Totally outstanding! Well Done to all

one of the better hotels in terms of space and staff in NYC - 5 stars. BUT...it it matters to you (as it does to me) as a business traveler, the hotel wifi is HORRIBLE!!!! i have stayed here several times, and have had to bring my own wifi for anything above dial up speeds., COME ON! we are in 2014. You can afford (at these rates) to provide decent speeds on hotel wifi...and I have stayed at some hotels in NYC that are half the nightly rate with decent wifi, Just a warning if you are a business traveler....do NOT expect to get online. This is not from a one time - location based review. poor internet is everywhere in this hotel. Take it from a seasoned biz traveler. Come on guys FIX THIS. and your hotel could be world class.

Room Tip: horribel wifi/internet speeds

We stayed for a week at the end of May.

We had previously asked for a non-smoking suite several months before our stay. However, on arrival the allocated room smelled of cigarette smoke. We were shown to another room and the explanation was given that the previous guest must have smoked in the first room without the staff knowing. Surely the room would have been checked before arrival?

The main problem issue was the breakfast/bar area of the hotel. For example, upon arriving, the greeting staff generally seemed much more concerned about looking at their computer terminals than greeting guests. Their attitude was surly. There was long queue for breakfast at the weekend, although there were empty tables "closed-off". We heard other guests complain. The Manager told us that he had required the tables to be used but he had "unruly staff" who had not followed his instructions.

The toaster did not work properly at any time when we went to the restaurant for breakfast. The Manager confirmed the hotel was aware of the issue but "bureaucracy" prevented the purchase of a new toaster!

Jamal, the General Manager for the Restaurant/Reception areas confirmed that these problems were known about and were being addressed as a "work in progress", although of course we were still paying the same price for our stay!

The bar staff were not friendly and service was slow. On one occasion, a waitress placed a "Reserved" sign on the table whilst we in the middle of our drinks! Hardly welcoming and clearly gave the impression that we should finish our drinks and leave ready for the reserved visitors to arrive.

That said, the rest of the hotel was very comfortable and efficient. Very clean rooms and extremely helpful concierge and front door staff. The Manager's courtesy car (for free trips within a few blocks of the hotel) is also a good perk when available.

Overall, I would recommend the hotel, but with the caveat that the breakfast/bar problems do need to be addressed. For that reason, the overall service rating and general rating has been given only three stars; otherwise it would have been higher.

The hotel has a perfect location with great sized rooms.it is 5 min walk to Central Park ,times square , and 5th avenue shopping. Room service is over the top on the price . One cheese burger with no drink cost $43 ,other than that I can not fault the hotel.will defiantly be back.

So I was in the elevator of this upscale hotel on my way to my room when a drunken woman in an ill-fitting Ann Taylor suit says to me, "Y'know, you look just like Chow Yun-Fat, and he's hot." Now I would have basked in the afterglow of that perceptive comment were it not for the fact that she then said to her companion, "Y'know, you look like Channing Tatum, and he's hot." But I didn't care because I was given a free upgrade to a suite on the 50th floor with a clear view of Central Park (photo: bit.ly/1kRtmgw). I'm not sure why, but the London staff was most generous from the moment I checked in.

When I arrived in my London suite, there on the coffee table was a bottle of red wine and quite a collection of fine chocolates. What a stylish living room it was with a curved sofa and large work desk (photo: bit.ly/SGFSmR). It opened up to the inviting bedroom with lush Italian linens (photo: bit.ly/1lhmCY9), a large dressing area and a marble bathroom with dual shower heads. There were flat-screen TVs in both rooms. At $249 per night, it was relatively reasonable by midtown Manhattan standards for all the amenities offered. For added pedigree, Gordon Ramsay has two restaurants on the premises.

I tried Ramsay's more informal restaurant Maze for breakfast and wasn't disappointed. The hotel's prime location on West 54th between 6th and 7th means it's close enough to be walking distance from most of the midtown attractions like MoMA, Rockefeller Center, Carnegie Hall, Central Park, and most importantly, the Halal Guys at 53rd and 6th. I'm not kidding. That's the best gyros rice plate to be had ever. The London is most definitely worthy of future consideration for any personal bookings since their low-end rates are comparable to the boutique hotels I usually patronize.

The hotel is excellent, big rooms, well appointed. Hotel service is excellent. But...the restraunt is a joke - bad food, horrible service. So, if you are on a no food diet, this is a good option - when you say NO to free, you know it's not good!
