“Superb location to explore this vibrant city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2011

Our first time in NYC saw us stay at the Holiday Inn Madison Square Garden. Located on 29th Street, it is just a five minute walk from Penn Station from where we'd arrived into the City.

The rooms, like many in big cities, aren't the largest, but they are well appointed and are clean and tidy. We weren't there for the room, we were there to explore the sights of the Big Apple.

The hotel offers a free coffee station on the ground floor, whilst there's a self-service breakfast that comes with the price - a rarity in the US. Everyday we loaded up on juices, coffee, cereals and cakes.

The weather was great so on most days we sat outside at the tables and watched the world go to work whilst enjoying breakfast.

The hotel is easily within walking distance of Time Square, Empire State Building, Rockefeller and the Flat Iron, the subway is right around the corner for those trips further afield.

We enjoyed our stay there, but one word of advice, don't arrange a cab to the airport with the hotel. We were assured that the price included the cost of the toll, the cab driver held a different view, it was a good job we had some spare dollars to pay him.

We'll surely visit NYC again, and wouldn't hesitate to stop at the same place.

Room Tip: Don't use the hotel's cab service, it'll be cheaper elsewhere

Stayed here for 3 nights with my family. The location is fantastic, central for all the famous NY landmarks. Yes the rooms are small but you come to NY to see all it has to offer, not to sit in a hotel room! The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were hectic but ideal for busy tourists.

Great location for this hotel, only one block from Madison Square Garden, underneath which is both the Amtrak and subway stations, only 5 mins to walk the street wheeling your luggage, great! The hotel was very clean, the rooms are compact but had everything you need for the short time you spend in them, after all you don't go to NYC to sit in your hotel room. The staff were extremely curteous and helpful and answered all our tourist related questions. We've stayed at the Express HI hotels before so knew the format etc we didn't want to spend a fortune on a plush 5* hotel when we didn't expect to spend a great deal of time in it, the Express HI 'did everything it said on the tin' and was a good choice for our needs.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express over the weekend of 22-24 Oct. for a concert. I was highly satisfied with the staff at the counter. They were courteous and helpful in helping me to find various locations around Manhattan. This hotel is located 2 short blocks from Madison Square Garden and there are numerous eateries right down the street. The rooms are small, but what do you expect in New York. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: get a back room as it is furthest from the street.

We stayed here for 3 nights in total, one night at the beginning of a tour and 2 days at the end. The first night we were all set for bed after a long flight when we noticed that the sheets hadnt been changed from the previous guest - not a good start! However, we rang down to reception and this was sorted very quickly.

Both rooms we stayed in were clean and tidy, a bit small with the 2 beds in but for a city centre hotel you cant expect too much more. The free breakfast was well organised, if a little busy, and there were plenty of options both cold and hot.

The hotel is in a great location, 10-15 minutes walk from times square and there is also a subway station at the end of the street for attractions further afield.

Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting New York

Stayed here for 6 nights and it ideally situated within a short walking distance of Times Square, Broadway, Empire State Building and the underground which you can catch to the Ground Zero Memorial Garden.
The accommodation was excellent and the free breakfast sets you up for the day.
Really good choices of eating houses to suit all pockets within a 5-10minutes walk from the hotel
