We actually stayed there last May but had to give a date, so we thought the hotel was really good value as it is right in the middle of things and everything was only a short walk or a subway ride away.We are going there again in 10 days for a week and are sorry to here that there are renovations going on, but we hope they won't be too intrusive. The plants on the street are put out every morning and put away at night , we used to have a giggle at the amount of work it was for the poor buggers that had to shift them!!!. Staff were really good and deserve all the tips you can give them

A well located hotel (close to metro station and short walk form Penn station) in Manhattan. Location quiet and safe. Staff very effective (quick checkin) and helpful. Rooms (although small, but it is standard in NYC), well decorated (coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave oven). Room and bathroom clean. The only problem is the noisy air-conditioning. I recommend this hotel especially for leisure trips - the price is reasonable compared with other hotels in NYC

This hotel is in a good location with subway stations close by to anywhere you would want to go and easy walking to greenwich, Chelsea & meatpacking district. Most staff were really pleasant and helpful however you could come across some pretty disinterested front desk staff overnight - especially when we checked in at 2am. The rooms are adequate with comfy beds and nice linen although the air conditioning is certainly on the noisy side. The free wifi could drive you to distraction on the 14th floor dropping out all the time and would not be good if you were trying to work. The construction noise was not continual but when it was outside the window in the morning it was an extremely painful wake up call!!! Given the price compared to other NYC hotels it appeared to be good value in a good location to explore NYC and no traffic noise on the 14th floor! . We never went to the restaurant but it didn't look like much was going on in there- plenty of options around the hotel to eat & drink.

Good Hotel but regrettably currently under repair hence the previous comments about scaffolding. After travelling near on ten hours from the UK an half an hours 'kip' would have been handy. However, as we entered our room we were met by a workman with an angle grinder looking through the window. The noise was horrendous - don't blame the Hotel but it would have been nice for Virgin to have let us know!!! With that one exception the Hotel was great all round, the staff in reception, the chambermaids and the location.
The Hotel is expensive 9 dollars for a small bottle of beer (£6) is a micky take.

Perfectly acceptable and not too expensive place to stay. Right near everything, with a subway less than a block away. Rooms are small and look a little tired, but are comfortable. TV has tons of channels and even high-def ones (only hotel I stayed in in the US to have that!). High-speed internet is included, which is good. Staff are very friendly and helpful, although can be a little slow.

The breakfast buffet is okay but hideously overpriced - but there are plenty of places to eat nearby.

The only thing is try to make sure you get a room on a higher floor away from the street - my first room was on the 6th floor and next to the street and even with earplugs I kept getting woken up by traffic. If I hadn't been able to change rooms I would have found the stay much worse, but the staff were very accommodating in letting me move.

We were taking my son to college and needed a place to stay in the area. The Hilton Garde Inn in Chelsea is in a good location relative to Greenwich village. The room was nothing special as in a luxury hotel but still much more than adequate. A very comfotable bed, plenty of room (surprising for a new york hotel). No minibar (but who uses them anyway). Instead there is a small fridge in the room which was adequate to hold my midnight snack. Very quiet and I got good sleep.
The free wireless internet did not work well in my room however there was an ethernet connection that worked perfectly. Surprisingly the wireless did not work well in the business center either and when I asked the manager he said that it works best in the restaurant/bar. It did. Maybe this is a ploy to get folks to the bar? Speaking of the bar/restaurant - it is not a happenin place but adequate for a drink and for breakfast.
Currently ther is some construction going on so the front facade is covered by scaffolding. This was actually good as it kept us from being rained on. The staff were helpful and pleasant.
Overall I would say that this hotel is a good value and enough upscale to help wash away the wearies of the day. It is not in the luxury class but you can't beat the price.

The location was amazing for most all my tourist-y needs. This hotel is located1/2 block from the Subway - the red line, and 1 1/2 blocks from the yellow line. It is a 3 block walk to Madison Square Garden/Penn Station. Fantastic - with even more transportation options. .Those lines will get you most anywhere you need to go, or will enable you to make an easy connection.
The rooms are small, its just a room with bed(s), but it is probably fairly standard for NYC. Everything was spotless. We had a couple of small issues and needs during the course of our stay, and everything was solved and resolved promptly and very cheerfully. There is a real can-do attitude among all the staff. We were lucky enough to qualify for the breakfast buffet due to our status in the Hilton "club" and the breakfast was fantastic, every day; everything was fresh and tasted great. The hotel is on a street populated almost exclusively by various flower merchants, fresh cut, dried, decorative accessories, and large live plants. It was a sight to see each morning. And, there are lots of trucks in the area each day. But, everything is pulled in and the streets/sidewalks are cleared each evening. As a result, the evening street scene is very quiet and makes for a quiet night in the immediate neighborhood.
