“Terrible place to stay”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

This place is the cheapest that you can find most of the time in Manhattan... and there is a reason for that! The room are the size of a walk in wardrobe with no ceiling. Prisoners have better comfort in jail. Forget even reading in your bed or do anything except sleeping in this place. Sometimes I laugh thinking about it. It was so bad that it was unreal. They also have a floor for Chinese (long term rental) and that floor is worth a visit on his own. In conclusion, avoid this place but if you stay there for sure you'll remember it.

Steve at reception helped us when we left our luggage in a service shuttle, he was patient and even contacted some people to help us -- and it solved and made our vacation nothing less than great ( the luggage was with us the next morning "delivered") . The other younger staffs was almost the same "nice but poor english" except for a mid 40s big belly that took the shift on the morning of May 22, 2014 -- he was a dinosaur "rude, insecure and acted like a jerk."

Thank you Steve, I don't know you but you helped us big time.

Room Tip: You need to pick the double bed rooms at worse, never pick the single bed just to save a 30-40 buck...

For a cheap stay and location it was not bad. However, the experience of it all was terrible. I stayed for three nights and every time we got back to the room there was either one or a group of people complaining about the obvious stuff that needs some attention. For example, sharing a bathroom is understandable, but it was never cleaned. Someone complained something was stolen from their room. Well, in our room you can see cracks by the door where people would try to pry it open. The service was terrible. I asked for change perhaps twice to get a soda from their machines, and was 'shooed away'... Literally.. I asked for another bar of soap because we extended one more night, and I barely got it without getting my hand bitten. The sheets for torn, there were some bug bites in the morning, and the TV does not work and the buttons as well. Now I'm not that picky nor arrogant, and I have stayed in tiny places just like this. But in others, the bathroom would be clean multiple times a day, and service would be great. Just want everyone thinking of coming here to think about mine and others reviews before booking.

I stayed here by myself in August 2012 for 4 nights. It was the cheapest that I could find in Manhattan at the time. The room itself was the size of a walk in wardrobe, it also had no ceiling. It was definitely somewhere that I couldn't spend a lot of time in due to the size of it and the lack of ceiling. You could hear other people coughing and talking while you're trying to sleep, a little bit weird, but it didn't bother me that much. On the whole it was a very interesting location, being in Chinatown and having quick access to midtown by having a nearby subway station. I would definitely visit again due to the convenience and the location of the place.

Room Tip: Rooms on the third floor are good, but on the way to those floors, you have to pass two horrendous a...

Windowless room, just enough room to walk next to the bed, just enough room to put your bags. We were checked in without one single word. The walls are paper thin. The shared bathroom was filthy / stinky / moldy.

The only reason to stay here would be if you want to stay in the middle of China Town, which it is.

Just get a cheaper place in Brookly for a lot less, but better quality and use your excess money to get a metro card, its 15min difference from Sun Bright.

Room Tip: There isn't one!

The hostel is unlike anywhere else I have stayed. I was tight on budget during my New York trip, and booked this one in Manhattan.

There is an arrangement of tens of tiny cubes one next to the other, each separated by a small wooden board. Each cube has a bed, and a cupboard. There are 4 toilets for 40-50 cubes. That's about it. There is no individual ceiling to the cubes, but a wire mesh.
There is centralized AC, and free wifi, but no lift. Some of the rooms are on the 7th and 8th floors, and it is going to be a huge problem with no lift.
The setup could still have worked for me, but for the toilets. They were fully abused and not cleaned on time, which was a complete put off. I would have expected a little bit more for the 50 USD price.
I would rather prefer a shared dorm accommodation in a good hostel than have a private cube like this one.
The hotel is in the center of Chinatown, which is a good place to have a variety of food. The Chinese bakeries offer some good fares as well.

Would I stay there again? Never. I would rather find a better place in the Queens even if it means I have to take a long ride to the city.
