“Wonderful service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2014

We reserved a block of rooms in this hotel for my son's wedding. We were very pleased by both the size of the rooms, the decor and the service of the staff. The staff went out of their way to make sure our event was special and were always courteous and helpful. Lily's Bar is a wonderful place to relax with a drink. The complimentary yogurt and granola is a nice touch and we had a fridge and microwave in our room which is great when you are staying several nights. Great location just blocks from Subway also.

I feel the hotel fell well short of my ecpectations. When I arrived no one greeted us to help with our luggage or assistance with parking. When I walked inside the receptionist was replacing the tape in the credit card machine and told me twice she would be just a moment. So to say the least we felt we were in the wrong place. On our way to the room we asked about the process of my vehicle, it was still outside. After finding the gentlemen he said he would take care of it and it would be an additional charge for being oversized. No mention of this on the website, just that it would be $35 to park. Then we headed up to our room, the halls were dingy, elevator small. Entering the room noticed the carpets were dated and the wall switches dirty and dusty. My mother in law went to use the restroom and thought the seat was dirty. I took a look and noticed it was just so worn it looked dirty. The pictures from website does not reflect what is reality....sorry we went there.....

For the price, these rooms were much nicer than I expected but one of the TVs didn't work so I had to pull out the stand a little to check the connection and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years back there. There was also a welcome card and fruit for another guest in my room, which I can't complain about because the fruit was nice to have.

The highlight of the stay, however, was Mohammed. I got in a little later than expected and when I got out of my taxi I asked Mohammed, who greeted me and helped me out of the cab, for a good ethnic place to grab food. He recommended a little place on near 27th and Lexington that was absolutely delicious. He was incredibly kind and helpful and just a great individual. Roger Smith is lucky to have him!

I spend a week in this hotel ever so often since the last three year, they have never let me down, a consistent dedication to service and ensuring the greatest comfort that a NY traveler needs (the city wear you out!). The front-office always so helpful and welcoming, the rooms keep a 70's look still fresh (how do they do it?), and the location it hard to beat for UN-types, a block from Grand Central, a jog from Central Park, and at a great price! Coming soon...

It is hard for us to find a hotel on Lexington Ave in the midtown area that we haven't stayed at. Roger Smith proved to be a nice surprise, however. It is very neat, small, lacking hustle and bustle of the chain hotels, intimate and quiet. Yes, quiet, for it is arguably one of the quietest hotels we have ever stayed at. Friday and Saturday nights, the time when the adjacent Marriott and Doubletree Tree Hilton are one non-stop rowdy shouting drunken match of the frolicking out-of-towners, Roger Smith felt like we were the only guests on our 11th floor.
The room was quite spacious, seriously larger than most of the Manhattan hotels. The hotel, being owned by the same family since the late 1930s, retains much of its old charm, yet offering most of the modern amenities, including a complimentary Wi-Fi with a password printed and placed in your room. Every room is provided with a veritable library offering books for every taste; very unusual and inspiring. Free complimentary breakfast items, such as Vermont made yogurt and cereals are available in the lobby.
The location doesn't need any dwelling on. Super! We wish Roger Smith success and will undoubtedly stay again.

Room Tip: In the colder months, use the heater; the control is on the right side (facing the heater). Do not c...

Thoroughly enjoyed the charming aspect of this hotel, its location and proximity to what we had planned for the weekend. Loved the books and plants in the room! We felt the price vs value was excellent. Only downside was the loud music, talking and profanity from the room next door in the wee hours of the morning.

The Roger Smith is a clean, convenient, and friendly oasis in mid-town Manhattan for budget-minded travelers who just want to be part of the city's cultural life or do business in the city without paying Manhattan's sky-high hotel prices.

The rooms are comfortable, both the rooms and the bathrooms are clean, the man at the desk is friendly, the yogurt is free, apples are free, there's a little refrigerator to put things you might buy for light meals, and (in our room anyway) two chairs and a small table to eat at, as well as an easy chair to read in. There's even a sundeck with a bar on the roof (albeit with a view made up entirely of other tall buildings and sky) for warmer weather. Who needs more?

If you're looking to impress a client (or a certain type of new girlfriend) this wouldn't be the place for you; but if you just want to get work done or enjoy the city, I don't think you can go wrong.

Room Tip: Insist on a no smoking room, unless you smoke. Our room smelled fine. Obviously (this is Manhattan...
