Building seems old, carpet looks not fresh, furnitures are old style, however, the bedding is extremely clean. The bed is very comfortable. The hotel is on Lexington and 47th street, is very close to Times Squares. It is very convenient. Subway station is just few blocks away.

The Roger Smith was a stab in the dark. I needed a place in the Grand Central area where I was attending a conference. It sounded good online -- and did not disappoint. If you want big hotel slickness, this will not be for you. It's an older building with touches of newness here and there, the old mixing with the new to create a nice, comfortable, attractive setting. There's no room service, which ordinarily would be a problem for me, but the hotel's arrangements with a few well chosen restaurants made for an even better experience. One night I ordered from the included Indian restaurant menu, and had one of the best meals of my stay.I ordered as though from Room Service and it was delivered quickly and HOT. But the people at the hotel were the best -- helpful, fast, and accommodating. I give the Roger Smith a 5 for making my recent stay in New York just terrific.

Room Tip: My room overlooked Lexington Avenue. Lots of traffic -- but New Yorkers seem to have forgotten how...

We've stayed here a number if times over the last 15 years and the hotel has certainly not improved. If you want cheap you will get it here. It is not funky as it used to be, it is just worn out. The old wall and floor coverings, drapes and furniture that looks like it came from a second hand shop is just plain nasty, the charming part wore off years ago. No service and the ground floor cafe is closed, replaced with a bar. We will not be returning. We mentioned how disappointed we were to a local restaurant waiter and he told us he hears that a lot now. Please go in with your eyes open!

I was a little worried about this hotel because some of the reviews were mixed. We stayed here for 8 nights and were very pleased with our stay. We were in room 504 which was a corner room and was called a junior suite. The room was a good size for New York but the bathroom was pretty small. This is not your typical cookie cutter hotel but it had a very New York feel to us. As some of the other reviews have noted, you can hear the street traffic but that didn't bother us and we considered it part of the atmosphere. Admittedly, the carpet was a little worn but nothing major and one of the chairs in the room was pretty worn. If you are looking for brand new rooms and four star amenities then this may not be the place for you. But if you are looking for a little charm and willing to overlook the few flaws then this is a great place to stay in a great location.

Room Tip: The junior suite was a corner room so it looked larger than most of the rooms. The hotel gave a dis...

Our room was a lovely surprise, designed more like a bed & breakfast that an typical cookie-cutter hotel room. Lots of room, very comfortable bed, bathroom also very roomy and recently updated. The hotel itself has a old-world feel to it, also very enjoyable for our taste. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Location couldn't be better. Great value compared to other hotels in the area. We would happily come back.

We stayed here when we were in NYC for a wedding. The hotel is in a very nice location, and as a bonus there's a nice rooftop bar for when the weather cooperates. The biggest thing that stood out to us was the room itself - in NYC we're used to very expensive rooms being tiny tiny tiny, but for a relatively reasonable price we got a beautiful, spacious room with a nice view.
