spent 10 nights family of 5 - plenty of space in the 1 room suite. Room neat & tidy, friendly staff, continental breakfast OK and saved us heaps but we did have a couple of hot breakfasts elsewhere just to break it up a bit. Not much more I can say just an all round good experience.

Room Tip: Rooms at back of hotel much quieter

Third time here, and each time has been great. Rooms large by city standards, close to any kind of food you'd want, and quiet. Good work space with stong wifi. Bathrooms are standard size but more than adequate. Will continue to come back.

Room Tip: Second floor might not have the views, but they are close to the WiFi center. Great connection speed...

How do i love thee? Let me count the ways:

Fabulous staff
We needed a cab and we happened to be staying there during the UN General Session, with Obama and others around the corner at the Waldorf. The bell hop was out in the road attempting to hail a cab. They all wanted airport runs and we were just going to the theater. He snagged a town car and negotiated a reduced price for us. Beyond the call of duty I would say.
Every time we came in and out we were greeted warmly, with a sincere desire to help out in any way they could.

Great location
A couple of blocks from major subway lines, around the corner from a bus line. Away from the mania of Times square, and yet accessible to wherever you want to go.

Fabulous suites
We splurged on a two queen bed suite. The bedroom was roomy by NYC standards, with space to move around. There were three of us, and we had two closets to hang things, as well as drawers. (in the interest of clarity, we all could not have unpacked our suitcases into drawers, but there was a very generous number of "normal" hangers, not the secure ones that are such a pain to get in and out.) Loved having the sitting area and small kitchenette. We were out and about, didn't spend a lot of time in the room, but if we had had bad weather we would have been very comfortable inside. Our bathroom felt spacious, with room for the three of us to spread our stuff out. We enjoyed having a window in the shower to open for fresh air, but the fan seemed to take care of steam needs. The room was very quiet, and even the air conditioner noise was not a bother. I really enjoyed the bed, with a variety of coverings, to fit the warmth needs of any guest.

I truly look forward to using the San Carlos Hotel in the future, whenever I have the pleasure of visiting NYC.

An added tip, if you plan to use the bus/subway system I strongly recommend getting the $30/7 day pass. You get unlimited rides. We were only in the city for 4 days and would have paid significantly more had we purchased regular tickets.

Room Tip: We were on the 12th floor and street noise was minimal.

We made reservations 6 months ago and pre-paid at another hotel. Upon check-in we were told we were being re-located for one night at the San Carlos. I wish I'd made reservations here originally! Beautifully appointed rooms, sitting up on the 10th floor, above the noise, continental breakfast included, small kitchenette (microwave/fridge), --- but best of all in our one bedroom suite -- two, yes TWO bathrooms. This is perfect for family of four with two college age kids. Hotel stays in new york are expensive enough. the luxury of two bathrooms between four people doesn't need to be explained!

Room Tip: get a room as high up as possible. lower level rooms hear street and neighboring garage noises. also...

2nd visit to the San Carlos in a year - I reviewed it earlier in the year but just wanted to write again after my 2nd visit - the quality is consistent, the rooms very quiet, the service is impeccable and friendly, the rooms are big, clean and nicely appointed and the rates are very reasonable for what you are getting in a prime location in NYC.
Walking distance to Rockerfellar square and Madison Avenue - on a quiet side street between Lexington and 3rd so you do not hear a lot of street noise

We had a king bed room on the 7th floor. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable with nice linens, and no noise whatsoever. The bathroom is small, without much counter space, standard tub/shower, but very clean and new. The hotel had a very international feel, perhaps the continental breakfast is a draw for Europeans who often expect breakfast to be included. A nice mix in September of families, couples, business people. The breakfast is quite adequate, not luxurious though. The hotel appears well cared for. We paid in advance and got the discount which made it a good deal for NYC. Also love that location, near enough to the theatres, shopping, etc. but away from the tourist areas. All in all a well recommended stay.

Room Tip: Our 7th floor room has virutally no A/C noise, and no hotel or street noise either.

My wife and I recently stayed at the San Carlos for the third time in three years. The hotel is still in my opinion one of the greatest in NYC and the staff especially Gabriel and Bobby have become like family and certainly treated us as such.

The hotel is Ina great location with transport both bus and subway within half a block as well as many good restaurants in the vicinity. This hotel is definitely one of our favorites.
