I stayed at this hotel from the 4th of December to the 8th of December 2013 with a friend on a city break. The hotel was clean & the staff were attentive & helpful. The best thing about this hotel was the location. It's in midtown Manhattan & very central to everywhere.

The free breakfast in the morning was acceptable & the wi-fi wasn't bad. The bedrooms were adequate & the beds were comfortable. The hotel is in desperate need of a updating & this is the main problem with it. The other hotels on the same road were in much better condition & the Affina 50 had renovation work going on whilst we were there.

If the hotel were to have some renovations it would certainly warrant a better review from me. After having read previous reviews on this hotel I am surprised more people who have stayed there haven't noticed the need for renovations.

There are better hotels in NY for the same money than The San Carlos. Again if they were to improve their appearance this wouldn't be the case.

I can't rate the swimming pool or the spa as the hotel didn't have one.

Room Tip: We had an inside room so I would recommend this as it was facing the road so it was less noisy.

Hotel is close to good shopping and restaurants. Staff is pleasant and professional. Our room was large, clean but needs updating. Hotel is starting to really show its age. Continental breakfast was okay, nothing special. Overall good value for dollar.

Clean spacious room; good sized bathrooms. Complimentary breakfast - not a lot of food options but good quality; great OJ! The staff is warm and personable; definitely a hotel to put at the top of the list!

I stayed here again for the third time in November of 2013. In my last review, I indicated that the bed mattress was too soft for my liking. However, I cannot voice that complaint this time. Also, the attentive staff was excellent, and the San Carlos is in a great location in Midtown East, basically on the corner of 50th and Third Avenue.

Room Tip: A room in the back, although with not a great view will ensure a quieter night of sleep.

Stayed at this magnificently located Manhattan hotel for the sixth time on November 21-26, 2013 and cannot give it anything less than five stars. This sixteen floor hotel is located strategically at East 50th street between Third and Lexington Avenues, so conveniently situated close to the many wonderful tourist sites and stores that New York City has to offer. The greatest thing this hotel offers is service. The staff goes out of its way to fulfill the every want of its guests wherever possible. It all starts with the friendly and efficient bellboys and the magnificent staff at the registration desk who never fail to greet the customer effusively and are glad to oblige whenever their assistance is needed. Repeat guests are always recognized because there is rarely any turnover of staff at this hotel and the staff is amazingly able to recognize return guests, often even remembering the guests name even a year later. The rooms are very spacious (I always choose the room with two queen beds), offers great heat in the winter and superb air conditioning in the summer, has fine bathroom amenities including (thank goodness) more than enough towels, and very comfortable beds. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the maids very quickly clean the rooms so you can return to your room at any time of the day you choose and the beds will be remade and the bathroom supplies replenished. On the floor above the lobby there are six computers for your free use (wi-fi is also free) and these computers are always very well maintained. Free breakfast is also supplied to guests (continental type breakfast with bread, rolls, fruit, coffee, tea, juice, and yogurt available). While the view from some rooms is not spectacular you will never notice for you will be bowled over by the friendliness of the staff. I am perhaps a little reluctant to write this great review for fear that every Tom, Dick, and Harry will learn this best kept secret in New York and some day I will find it difficult to obtain a reservation when I want but all kidding aside, this is a magnificent place to stay whether you are in New York on business or for pleasure.

Went to New York City for a girls weekend to see some plays, shop and sightsee. Found the San Carlos Hotel on Trip Advisor and liked it so much that I wanted to return the favor to others seeking a hotel in the Theater District. Everything was great. We had a suite with 2 queen size beds that were very comfortable. The bathroom was very nice. Our suite also had a large sitting room with sofa and chairs and a kitchenette. A Continental Breakfast was included. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Walked to the Theater and dinner. Would definitely stay here again!

I am loath to recommend this hotel as I don't want many people to know how great it is so its not booked up with no rooms for me. Beautiful lobby, with helpful and friendly doormen. Reception staff friendly and chatty. Breakfast is spare/- bagels, cereals and pastries but is all you need when in NYC. Fantastic rooms with lovely decor, mini kitchen and roomy for NYC. Great location- a short walk to St Patricks, and to Rockefeller. Close to shops to pick up essentials. Starbucks nearby if interested in their coffee. Highly recommended
