Just had the lunch special here (triple sausage) and it was amazing. The currywurst just blew me away... A symphony of flavors that lingered in my mouth for hours. If you love sausage, this place rocks! Great ambience too. it is kinda hidden though, but worth trying to find.

“Great All Around”
Reviewed 9 April 2010

I walked past this restaurant for about two years before I had the guts to try it out. It looks a little intimidating, a basement bar tucked away on a side street, but I can't think of a place I would rather be. Once you get in, the place is amazing. Great sausage. It's four bucks for a really filling sausage with kraut, onions, mustard and cabbage. Throw in some a huge variety of German beer (try the black lager) and you have paradise. The service is not your overly peppy T.G.I.Friday type, it's short and too the point. If you show them respect, they will make you feel like you are one of the gang. And the back room, oh man you need to see it for yourselves.

“The most German restaurant in the US!!”
Reviewed 3 November 2009

We had a great time here. The food is authentically southern German -- the waitresses are as inhospitable as they can be in Germany -- and the food is delicious. There are no windows in the restaurant, which was too bad, but the walls are covered with murals of the alps, an image of Neuschwanstein (the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang castle), Lake Constance, and other discernable southern German landmarks. Yousit at large comfy picnic benches and are served great German beer in the right glasses. The bar (in the front, with windows) seems like a neighborhood watering hole, and everyone is very friendly. We were there on Halloween and had a blast.

“My favourite bierhaus in New York”
Reviewed 8 August 2008

Lederhosen was my favourite place to drink in New York...ok I love German bier but the bar has a very relaxed attitude and the staff are very friendly and they play very un-german music. Irina, the waitress who served me the most was very polite and would chat away to you, so that made you feel at home, plus it helped that she was very cute.
The food is very typical German which brought back memories of my visits to Germany as did the beer. I would recommend asking for a das boot of franziskaner bier for $10......it will last you for hours lol.
I would recommend this bar if you want to get away from the more traditional american or irish bar scene........if you do decide to visit I can guarentee you won't be disappointed
