Just got back from our trip to NY and found our stay at the Wolcott a pleasant experience. As other reviews say the building is old (the hotel has been in service since 1904 - and it doesn't look as though much has changed!) and the rooms and décor very dated, however everything was clean and beds comfortable. The complimentary muffins served at breakfast were delicious and we found the staff on the desk helpful and efficient.

I would have given this hotel 5 stars however the wifi is not free and I think the majority of hotels now in major cities all over do offer their guests free wifi (and if they don't, they should!) So I don't think I would stay here again because of that, however, I couldn't complain about anything else. The hotel is also minutes walk from the Empire State and major shops such as Macy's, there are also subways in easy walking distance which allow you to go anywhere.

My husband and I stayed here in Dec 2013 and it was a great base to explore NY. It is a very old building (like the other reviews state), but our room was very big with big wardrobes, a safe in the wardrobe (very handy & no extra charge) and a big bathroom. The tea/coffee and muffins provided in the foyer daily was a very nice touch. The location was brilliant and very close to Macy's, the Empire State Building and subway stations and we would definitely stay here again, as the price was good. To be honest, we were only after a room to lay our head and have a shower, as we were off exploring NY, so we only really used the hotel to sleep. So, if you are looking for a more upmarket hotel and you are likely to spend some time in the hotel, perhaps you should not choose The Wolcott, but if you are likely to be out and about all of the time and making the most of what NY has to offer, then I would recommend you stay here, as the location is spot on.

Stayed here over the weekend of August 15-17 and were very satisfied. The location was perfect for what we wanted, tour buses leave from the corner of 5th and 30th, which was great. Parking lot across the street was easy, Dunkin' Donuts on the corner was great for breakfast. Hotel itself is old-time New York, the fact that you can get a triple room is huge in NYC. The bathroom has been remodeled and is adequate. I would definitely stay here again as a base for NYC exploration.

Room Tip: Unless you like jockeying thru stairway doors, ask to stay in the main part of the hotel

It is what it is. Somewhere to put your bags and get your head down.

No grumbles, good coffee and muffins to start the day before we went off exploring. Would stay here again, but if its something flash you are after you may be disappointed. Lovely old building with a stunning entrance area.

This was my third stay, but never again. We were on the 7th floor and they hadn't started remodeling the rooms yet. The décor was old as were the TV's, but the biggest surprise was the cockroach on the lamp next to the bed. They were able to accommodate us by giving us another room on the 4th floor that was updated, but we didn't sleep well the next two nights for fear that we'd see another one. I'm also particularly unhappy with the fact that everything is extra, i.e: internet for your room and even down stairs to print out boarding passes, not to mention that it is incredibly slow. Housekeeping is great, but I think the front desk could use lessons in "pleasantry".
