Stayed at The Kimberly from 8th January 2014 for 6 days. Arrived a little early but our room was available straight away. We had booked a Deluxe Room and was upgraded to an Executive Room which was really lovely. Very spacious room with Super King size bed. Lovely bathroom with separate toilet, shower room and double sink. This hotel is within easy walking distance of 5th Avenue, Time Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Centre, Empire State Building, Broadway, Macy's, Bloomingdales, Saks, Tiffany's etc. We walked to all those usual spots with no problem at all, and I'm not a great walker! So don't feel you need to stay in Time Square to see everything easily! The doormen were very friendly and helpful as well as all the concierges we met. Wi--fi isn't free in the room but you can use it down in the lobby for no charge which is ok if you just want to log on quickly. The hotel is under renovation, and it looks like they are extending - most definitely in the lobby area. This honestly didn't cause us any problems. There is scaffolding up at the front of the hotel, but to be honest, everywhere you go in NYC there is scaffolding up. Ok, it doesn't make the front look entirely inviting, but there are no problems inside at all. Believe me, scaffolding really is everywhere in NYC.
We went to Upstairs at the Kimberly on two occasions, once on the Friday night, after attending a Broadway show. It was quite busy, but we did still get a table to sit at. It was quite "hot and happening" and perhaps a tiny bit too clubby for us. We stayed for one drink and then went downstairs to the restaurant attached to the hotel called Noir. Nothing wrong with Upstairs, it was just a little two busy for us 40 year olds on this occasion! We went again on Sunday night and it was a lot quieter and we sat at a table looking out over the fabulous views. Really nice bar so would definitely recommend it.
Noir is the restaurant next door, but you can access it from the hotel lobby. We had evening drinks there and we also stayed for a meal as we liked it. It is a really lovely restaurant, with lovely staff and great food. Great Skirt Steak which my husband couldn't even finish as it was so large. Definitely worth the money and the hotel gave us a voucher for 20% off which was even better.
Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel, ignore any review that tell you otherwise. I was extremely happy with our room and the service we received and would definitely stay there again for business or pleasure.
