After researching for weeks I choose the Hotel Beacon for my family's stay during our vacation in NYC. This hotel offered the most space I could find without paying for a "suite" . Our room consisted of two bedrooms, two bathrooms (great for families), a full kitchen and a living room. This was unbelievably priced at about $500. Cheap by no means, but any other comparable amount of space in the city would be well into $1,000s.
The room was kept clean and well decorated in pastel/green colors. There were nice-sized closets so bags were not laying on the floor. Big windows in each room, however we were not high enough to get a view of the city (Room 906). But a decent view of the activity on Broadway below could be seen. Each room had a flat-panel TV and there was one more TV in the living room (no fights over what to watch). Beds were comfortable with nice comforters sheets which seemed new. Having multiple bathrooms saved us plenty of time getting two kids under 10 ready for the day or ready for bed. One of the bathrooms had a tub, the other had a walk-in shower. We did have a problem with the A/C going out one night - we were there when it was 102, so that didn't score positive points with us. However it was fixed quickly and the maintenance person had a friendly attitude. In fact, all staff we came into contact with (doormen, housekeeping) had good attitudes and seemed happy to be there.
The location was great for families - no hassles or large crowds associated with Mid-town but not "dead" either. There are two markets directly across the street which we visited for food to take advantage of the kitchen. If you choose not to cook there are plenty of other restaurant options in the immediate area. Another reason I liked this hotel was there was a subway station a short block down the street which connected us to Midtown/Times Sq in minutes.
My biggest complaint was the daily internet cost - In this age I feel internet should be complimentary. Plus it was inconvenient to have to call to the front desk everyday for an internet code.
Overall, I would definitely stay here again if I came to NYC with my family. The rate seems expensive when compared to other cities, but for the space provided this is a bargain in this town.

Room Tip: All two-bedrooms are corner rooms on the Broadway side of Hotel - so no views of Central Park.

We stayed for 6 nights in the Beacon Hotel. We were visiting from the UK and was given the choice when booking of the Beacon or a compact room in a Midtown hotel which worked out more expensive. The Beacon was by far the best choice. In a great neighbourhood, the subway a very short walk, good shops and restaurants near by. I would recommend Crumbs Bake shop for all your cupcake needs and Viand for breakfast lunch or tea. The hotel itself was spacious and very clean with a small kitchenettes and huge comfy bed. The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for you.

If I come to New York again I will most definately be staying here again! Well done Hotel Beacon!

I loved the kitchenette in the room. With grocery stores nearby, we were able to have coffee and muffins without going out. The 10th floor was quiet, without street noice. Great location & helpful staff.

Room Tip: get away from the elevators and children's room. I could hear a little bit of the kids nearby.

We booked this hotel for our 7 night honeymoon after much research, mainly done here on tripadvisor.

We arrived and were greeted by a friendly doorman and helpful reception staff. When we made our way up to our room we were greeted by a bottle of champagne and some chocolates, a very nice welcoming touch.

The room was comfortable and spacious with a large bed and plenty of seating. Our view was towards Downtown NYC, which was spectacular at night. Having the kitchenette was great, especially with the Fairway market right across the street. We would buy milk and juice and store it in the fridge, there was also a microwave, hob, plates and cutlery.

Location of the hotel is brilliant, literally 1/2 minute walk to the 72nd street subway station . 2 blocks away from central park. About 5 blocks to the American Museum of Natural History.
There are lots of pharmacies and markets very nearby and a Starbucks next door.

The hotel isn't located in Midtown Manhattan, but don't let that put you off at all, with the subway it's cheap and easy to get to anywhere in Manhattan. it's also nice to retreat from the chaotic NYC to somewhere a little quieter.

There's a large selection of places to eat, I'd recommend Shake Shack (2/3 blocks east) and the Manhattan Diner (2/3 blocks north), the Diner will also deliver to your hotel room.
Don't miss out a visit to the Levain Bakery (1 block east on 74th) for the best cookies you'll ever try.

Thank you to everyone at the Beacon who made our honeymoon so special and enjoyable, we hope to visit again in the coming years.

This has to be by far the best hotel I stayed in New York. The location is brilliant, I love the neighbourhood & the subway is so close it makes it easy to travel everywhere. Love the fact you can stroll to central park in a few minutes. We’re lucky enough to stay in one bedroom suite, as big as a good size flat and furnished beautifully, wish it was my own apartment! We were on the 18th floor and the view was simply stunning. Handy to have a full kitchen to be able to cook your own meal! I can't simply find a single fault in this hotel. I really liked to be close to both Fairview marked & Zabar, 2 of the best shops I’ve ever visited.
I hope to be able to go back very soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor, view is so great!
