Ney York accom was daunting and after checking and browsing and checking again .... and again nearly 100 Manhattan hotels on Trip Advisor I STILL hadn't found anything I deemed suitable. Then my Dentist told me about his recent stay in the big apple, I finally decided to take his advise (and not only floss more regularly) but check out the Beacon Hotel. I was extremely glad I did and so I booked it right away for our 6 night New York visit. This hotel is great in every way, value, cleanliness, modern-ish charm, excellent service, as well as perfect location in upper Manhattan. Moderately priced (for New York). Surprisingly quiet, friendly helpful staff, and a nice cosy bar downstairs. The rooms are quite spacious by NY standards and feature a small kitchenette that includes a fridge, sink, crockery, cutlery, and a coffee pod machine (which produced delicious coffee). The beds were probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in anywhere and a most welcome sight after a 20-something hour flight from Australia. Rooms are serviced daily by friendly housekeepers. Nearby places to note: the cafe 'Viend' next to hotel on the corner is the cleanest diner/cafe I've eaten in and open late. Great milkshakes, Cheeseburgers, and Rice Pudding.... yes that's right Rice Pudding (& NY Cheesecake of course). A supermarket directly opposite on Broadway 'Fairway' is well stocked, open late, reasonably priced and just plain handy if you need any groceries or other items. 'Dallas BBQ' round the corner on 76th? (next to John Lennon's old digs - The Dakota) is sensational, cheap, and very filling if you are hungry.
All in all the Beacon Hotel is absolutely top class in every way - I cannot find any fault with this place and I highly recommend it if you want a nice comfy quiet clean room away from the hustle and noise of Times Square.

Ps: the Beacon Hotel is close to Central Park and approx a 20 min walk down Broadway to the action of Times Square & Grand Central station etc, and in case you haven't guessed it, yes it's right next door to the historic Beacon Theatre. 10/10

After trying numerous hotels in NYC, we chose the Beacon. I can only say we have finally found the one we have been looking for: super friendly, helpful staff; charming doorman; ultra-clean room with 2 double beds and a teeny kitchenette for easy coffee-making and storing leftovers. We got a lower price by booking directly through the hotel, so don't waste your time searching for a better rate through booking agencies. This review doesn't actually give the hotel enough credit, so let me end by saying...shouting....IT IS A FABULOUS HOTEL.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 16th floor facing east. It was totally quiet...not a bit of street noise.

We stayed at The Beacon for 10 nights & were pleased to get a room on the top floor with views over the surrounding buildings & Hudson River. Our stay was part of a special holiday & we had chocolates & champagne in our room on arrival as a gift from the hotel. The location was fantastic, right near the subway station on 72nd street (an express & local subway stop). There is a store (Fairway) across the road with anything you could want & it's open until 1am. Having a laundry room with washers, dryers & snack vending machines was also helpful. The diner next door to The Beacon had free delivery, so was very convenient & almost the same as room service ( good food & prices too). Having a small kitchenette was also a great feature. Overall excellent location for a stay in NY, away from the noise & crowds of Times Square etc. but with easy access to everything with the nearby subway station. It was nice to stay in a neighbourhood with locals, so there were also plenty of services readily available e.g. hair dresser..Room & bathroom size were standard for NY. We would definitely stay again.

The Hotel is in a league of its own. Great location, amazing views, spacious (for a New York apartment). Safe, secure, easy access to Subway (a few metres down the road). Great bar!! Cheap beer, wine & spirits store next door. The reception staff were lovely.

THE CLEANERS were the NICEST, FRIENDLIEST – BEAUTIFUL people I have met. They were extremely punctual and paid excellent attention to detail.

This hotel isn’t massive so you feel a little special when you enter and leave the building. The staff great you and even remember you. This is the real New York Experience. I would highly recommend this property to friends and family!! And lets just say I will be returning to NYC again – and I will NOT stay anywhere else.. It is amazing!!! A+++++

Simply a stunning small boutique hotel in a wonderful location on the Upper West side. The fabulous Fairway market is across the road, a remarkably well stocked bottle shop is two doors down, the area is quiet, safe and non touristy... some interesting shops a stones throw away, yet a quick cab ride or pretty walk to the downtown area. Took a 1 bedroom suite, full kitchen, fridge and pull out bed in another room for visiting family. Love it!! Relatively expensive, especially with poor currency exchange at the time but it is the Upper West side of New York.

Room Tip: A tip for late arrivals... no room service, but a bar with snacks downstairs.

We stayed for a week here and found the place very friendly, clean and with all amenities that we required....a small kitchen (and I mean small), comfy beds, a laundry inhouse a great restaurant next door, a fresh food market across the street, liquor store next door, drugstore up the road and subway 4mins walk away. The subway trip to time square is all of 7mins, so perfect location and the meals next door at Viand Cafe are superb, wholesome meals at a great price. Comparitively to other apartments in NYC, this was a good price, as most are around 300-400 pn. The only let down were a few room issues with a non-flushing toilet and a touchy smoke alarm, but nothing that would put us off staying there again.

Room Tip: A front facing room will atleast give you a street view. not sure about others

The upper west side is a great place to stay in NYC. Its far enough away from the hustle and bustle of times sq etc that it is reasonably quiet at night time which is rare in NYC. Having said this it is by no means out of the way. Subway station 1 block away runs all the way downtown and still within easy walk of attractions like Central Park, Natural History Museum. Groceries and liquor stores nearby to easily stock the in room kitchen. Rooms are large by NY standards and very neat, clean and tidy.
The only downside we experienced was a less than helpful concierge desk at times and not the friendliest welcome at check in/check out.
