“Sure Bet at Beacon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2013

We usually stay in the Theater District, however, our stay at this hotel on the West Side proved to be a great choice and we would definitely stay there again. The neighborhood is very safe and a convenient walk to the 72nd street subway. The hotel desk even sells subway tickets.

The pros: spotless and quiet room, efficient kitchenette with Keurig machine, tea kettle, dish detergent and washrag, plenty of lamps, power cord for charging electronics, free Wi-Fi, room-darkening curtains, plenty of hangars in nice-size closet, full-length mirror, generous toiletries and towels. Dishes left in the sink will be replaced with clean ones each day by housekeeping.

The hotel was sold out but we never had to wait more that 2-3 minutes for the elevator. The Beacon Bar has 50% off happy hour from 3-7pm every day and you can order lite snacks.

A few cons: the mattresses could have been firmer and there is no exhaust fan in the small bathroom.

The diner, Viand, right next to the hotel is convenient for carryout, delivery or eating-in. As many have said, the Fairway Market across the street is a gourmet mecca. There are several reasonable restaurants nearby which are described in a directory in the hotel room.

Room Tip: You will get a better view if you are on a higher floor. We faced West (front of hotel) and were on...

We stayed at the Beacon Hotel in Upper West Side New York, the hotel was great it contained a kitchen lounge room and bedroom. Across the street there is a super market which had everything you would need and downstairs is a cafe which has great food. Also the hotel has a laundry so you can do your washing which was great. The staff are also very helpful, and the subway is just a step away we used every day. The Hotel is only 2 blocks away from Central Park and a couple of blocks away from the Hudson River. Also if going to New York get the New York Pass it was the best thing in helping you get around New York and into venues. Would stay at the Beacon again.

I think they call the Hotel Beacon the "Jewel of the West Side" ...a very apt desciption from our experience. For the price the rooms were absolutely great - comfortable, very clean and fresh. The proximity to the park, Lincoln Center was fantastic. In short the hotel is the "best in the west"!

Loved the Hotel Beacon which has become a favourite for Australians and many others.
After a month of traveling Easr & West Coast, these were the best rooms in our US trip.
Separate Lounge and bedrooms, great kitchenette, washing facilities, Wifi & close to markets, restaurants, Central Park and subways.
Would recommend to all NY travelers!

The location is great, few minutes walking to 72nd St metro in the heart of Upper West Side. We stayed in a suite with a two double bed room, a sofa bed in the living room and a kitchenette. The beds in the room were comfortable and the room really nice, with a good size closet and TV. Despite, the sofa bed was horrible. The mattress is very uncomfortable and not appropiate for a hotel like that. The overall suite was good but there were some stains in furniture and walls. The fridge is super noisy if you have to sleep in the sofa bed. Moreover the bathroom is nice, a little bit outdated and very small.

The room was large by NYC standards, painted a soothing green, and I could move around in it without triping over suitcases. It was also well lighted, which I haven't always found in New York. Bed was comfortable and the corridors and adjacent areas to the room quiet.Fairway market is across the street which is like a little NY supermarket with an excellent cafe, serving a healthful and tasty breakfast. The location is close to Central Park and the Museum of Natural History. There is also quite a bit of shopping nearby, but there is a neighborhood feel as well. During my stay I encountered problems with the heating system and the TV, but a service person was sent up immediately after my call, and the problems didn't take long to fix.
I would be happy to stay here again.

You will not find a better hotel in manhattan. Great location away from the crowds but within 10mins on the subway to times square. Great kitchen facilities. Very roomy suites. Very clean. Nice staff. You will not be disapointed if you book this hotel. STOP LOOKING AT REVIEWS AND BOOK IT!!!!!!!!!!
