“We Loved the Hotel Beacon!”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

We visit NYC every year and this is the first time we stayed at the Hotel Beacon. We will definitely return and recommend staying at this hotel. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful and make you feel at home. The rooms are great with a kitchenette in every room and a Keurig coffeemaker too. We were in room 2309 and had an awesome view of the city skyline and the Hudson River. Beds are comfortable, room was quiet and we both had a good nights sleep. The hotel location is perfect - nice neighborhood, Fairway Market directly across the street, plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. We had drinks twice in the Beacon Bar and had one breakfast delivered (for free) from the Viand Café, which is attached to the hotel. There's a parking garage directly across the street and parking is $40/day. Our room was clean and comfy. There's a nice sized closet with safe, umbrella and plenty of hangers. We can't think of anything we didn't like about the Hotel Beacon and will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: We upgraded from a standard to a deluxe room and had a great view. Deluxe rooms are on higher floor...

This is the FIRST time I've staying in a NYC hotel that I did not hear traffic noise. Added to that, the staff were delightful and the rooms are very nice! Large, by NYC standards, the kitchenette is great for reheating leftovers, enjoying a midday cup of coffee, etc. There is also a small laundry room on the 5th floor for use - especially helpful when you're cleaning clothes with snow on them!
Just 1.5 blocks from the Metro, it has easy access to Times Square for theater visits and sightseeing. I highly recommend the Hotel Beacon and will return when I'm back in NYC.

Room Tip: HIgh floor gives you a lovely view. The 2 room suite is especially nice!

Trying to find reasonably priced, comfortable accommodation in NYC over New Year is the classic needle in a haystack story. It seems as though every place that has a bed and four walls has the opportunity to engage in a little price gouging at this time of the year.

I've learned from previous trips to NYC that space is at a premium. Finding a room that fits people and luggage can be a massive challenge. A few trips ago, I discovered that the best way to go is with apartment-style hotels as these tend to have some (sometimes limited) self-catering facilities but most importantly, a little more square footage.

After considerable time spent scouring the internet and taking recommendations from friends, I happened upon an article that listed the Hotel Beacon and was happy to see it rated as #24 on Tripadvisor for hotels in NYC. Although still expensive, it was definitely one of the most affordable options I'd seen.

The hotel really was as good as all the other reviews claim. Our room (on the 21st floor) had an amazing view, was well appointed and very comfortable. The kitchenette was very tiny ... we didn't do any cooking and used it only to store some drinks and nibbles that we'd bought from the amazing supermarket (Fairway) across the road. Others obviously did use their cooking facilities and this is probably the one small-ish issue we had with the hotel - the very heavy cooking smells that permeated throughout our room and lingered longer than was comfortable.

The diner right next door to the hotel was our daily breakfast venue, great menu and lots of friendly staff. The concierge recommended some restaurants in the area and they were very good especially the Italian options.

The location is amazing. Very easy to get everywhere - Central Park, mid-town and downtown (from the nearby Metro station). There are lots of great shops very nearby.

In particular, we loved the feel of the Upper West Side as there were a lot of locals about and it wasn't overrun by tourists in the way the mid-town area is.

If you want to get a feel for a more local existence in NYC but still be close to everything that's worth seeing, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: The higher floor rooms have spectacular views.

I was traveling with my adult daughter. We required two double beds and a refrigerator for medication. The room had both and a kitchenette. Since I enjoy a morning coffee, a Keurig coffee maker was a welcome plus. The staff was very personable and the room was clean. There are plenty of dining options nearby. The subway is just over a block from the hotel. Frankly, I have found a place to stay whenever I visit NYC.

We loved the Hotel Beacon. It was perfect for our family of 4. Spacious room, great facilities. We also loved the location- the Upper West Side was perfect for us and we were pleased we weren't staying in mid-town. Would definitely recommend,

I shared a clean, tastefully furnished, one-bedroom suite with my young daughter and father based on a recommendation from a question I posted in the forum. We all had plenty of space for all of us to stretch out. Although the bathroom was a bit cramped considering the space was a suite. We had a nice view of the neighborhood and Central Park. The kitchenette was a very practical amenity to have and stocked with all the basics (small fridge, coffee maker, utensils, dishes, pots)
Customer service was professional and polite.
I really liked the location of the hotel because it was away from the sometimes loud and garish tourist scene of mid-town. Our family enjoyed walking to Central Park and the museums. Walking around the neighborhood and exploring the local coffee shops, stores, and restaurants was a great NYC experience on this multi-generational trip. In the morning I was able to slip out while everyone was sleeping to pick up pastries from Levain bakery. In the evening we picked up roasted chicken and salad from the market across the street and ate in the room to accommodate my daughter's bedtime schedule.

What a gem of a place to stay in New York. Made a booking after a recommendation in travel lift out of Sunday telegraph newspaper and never stopped smiling. Large rooms, kitchenette, great laundry, supermarket and bottleshop close handy. 3 blocks to Central Park and 1 block to metro stop. Exceptionally clean and staff friendly, I just can't recommend this hotel enough, especially after 5 weeks traveling all over USA, this as the best hotel we stayed in, and many other "top brand" hotels could learn something here. Only small downer was the sofa bed that my 2 teenagers shared.....was lumpy and could do with a better mattress.

Room Tip: The higher up the better view...
