“I live in hotels, and this one is as close to home as it gets!”
Reviewed 17 August 2009

I opted for a one bedroom suite, because I travel for a living and the idea of cooking, and having a full refrig is fantastic. The nearby shopping across the Street on Broadway was the best, and I loved the idea that this hotel was in the thick of a NY 'local neighborhood...the Time Square properties I normally used, are all transient traffic but I felt at easeaomg a whole buch of the 'locals'. Eateries are important, and there was plenty of good choice. NY hotel rooms are traditionally on the small size, but I found the one-bedroom to more than ample for spreading out, and I could work in the living areas, and mess up the bedroom at will. The location is tops; I got a MetroPass and simply hopped on and off to get everywhre and anywhere and, at any hour. Highly recommended venue; Linens, ammenities and staff were all exceptional and the price was more than fair for Manhattan; I've paid twice as much before, and not gotten anywhere near the room, or the value... I'll be going back again and again, thanks.

We had stayed in a Times Square hotel on a previous visit to N.Y.C ,but the location and overall ambience of the Beacon is, in my opinion, far superior . Only a couple of minutes walk to the subway , across the road from a fantastic market / store , numerous restaurants , bars and shops nearby and right in the middle of the upper west side , a "real people " neighbourhood of Manhattan. Light years away from some other overly touristy areas , this was a wonderful start to this year's American adventure. Staff were pleasant and helpful, the restaurant / diner attached was fairly priced and served good food . The suite was well equipped and kept spotlessly clean . Only slight downside was the air conditioning which really struggled to make any impression during a very hot spell of weather. We would have no hesitation in staying here again if / when we re-visit Manhattan and would recommend it to any friend who was looking for somewhere to stay.

This hotel has been refurbished in the last couple of years and it is now fantasic (used to be a bit shabby, reminded me of ghostbusters). We stayed for 4 nights in a suite and it was just superb. The decor and furnishings are of a very high standard, there was a bedroom which had two double beds and a flat screen TV with about 1000 channels, seperate living room with a double sofa bed and another flat screen TV. There is a large well appointed shower room and a small kitchenette with fridge, tea/coffee making facilities and a cooking hob.

Located on 75th + Broadway I found the hotel to be located perfectly, you can catch the subway which is a 2 minute walk away or stroll down Broadway to Times square which takes about half an hour. Across the road from the hotel is FAIRWAY which is an excellent minimarket/deli and next door is a diner which does amazing breakfasts.

I would definately stay at the Hotel Beacon again.

My sister and I stayed at the Beacon for 4 nights and we were very happy with it. The beds were comfortable. Everything was quite clean. We had a small kitchenette with a stove, sink, coffee maker, kettle, toaster and fridge so we had our breakfast in the room. The smoke alarm was VERY sensitive and went off when the kettle was not even boiling yet. The staff were very responsive, if we had any requests. The subway was a couple of blocks away and very safe day and night. We felt safe the whole time we were in NYC. The place never closes down so there are people around always! There is a great little boutique around the corner on 72nd street toward Central Park called "Off Broadway". Great clothes and great sales people! All in all a great visit!

We spent seven nights at this hotel with our granddaughter. Check-in was prompt and courteous and we were on our way to our room within minutes. Unfortunately, we were disappointed in the size of the area where the sofa bed was located, with its adjoining tiny kitchenette (once the sofa bed was opened, you could not get to the window). As to the sofa bed comfort, it was most uncomfortable for our granddaughter, but on the following morning, upon leaving for the day, when the manager was notified, an additional mattress pad was placed on the bed and it increased her comfort considerably. There are more closets than rooms. Each one is enormous, with lots of hangers. The bathroom is very small, with minimal shelf space and no exhaust fan, thus, it became very steamy after showering. On the plus side, the shower pressure was outstanding. The towels were thick and fluffy, but we had to ask each day for additional towels, or helped ourselves to some from the cart. There was some noise from adjoining rooms, but this was not a major issue. Overall, the staff could not have been nicer. The location of the hotel is terrific - near a subway and buses.

The Fairway Market, across the street, is as advertised. If they don't have it, it doesn't exist. As a matter of fact, we had dinner twice in their upstairs restaurant - service and food is excellent.

Let us say a word, as other posters have indicated, about the restaurant mentioned several times, "La Vela", 373 Amsterdam Ave (at 75th or 76th St.). We dined there twice. The food is not pretentious but is terrific, the service is excellent and the wines reasonable priced, as is the food.

We also ate at Fusha, just around the corner from the hotel on Amsterdam Ave (at 75th St.). It is Asian fusion, not inexpensive, but excellent, and again, the staff is very good and friendly.

We recommend getting a Metro Pass for the time you are in the city. The desk at the hotel has daily passes, but if you are there longer, you can purchase longer passes at the subway stations. The subways and buses are air-conditioned and surprisingly clean and run often. We never took a taxi.

Stayed in a queen one bedroom suite on 25th floor. The staff were very nice- check in was a breeze. The suite consisted of a separate bedroom and living room. Bed was comfortable. Our room faced the west side and was much quieter than the room we had before- I think there was a lot less traffic than at Thanksgiving when we stayed last time. We had trouble with the TV in the front room, called the front desk and someone came up promptly , pushed a few buttons and we had a working TV. The hotel is close to the subway and there is a grocery store right across the street.
The only negative was the air conditioner in the living room. The sign above the control said it would cut off when you left the room. However, it would turn off if you were in the room but not moving around. I had to get up every 10 minutes so that it would continue to run. The bedroom unit had the same sign but we had no problem with it. Since we weren't in the room a lot during the day it didn't bother us too much.

Overall a great stay- we will back in November for Thanksgiving.

We stayed at the Beacon (my wife, our two children 3 &10 years, and I) for 3nights and 4 days. The One Bedroom Suite with King was perfect. We took our meals in the room, best way to save $$$ because the kitchen in the room has everything needed to cook. The supermarkets in front of the hotel are ok. Cleaned everyday, service was excellent. The location of the hotel is perfect. Only negative, was the size of the bathroom and no pool. Also, the price of internet access was high (10$ for 24h)

We'll get there again next time for sure.
