Reasonably priced big city hotels tend to be a little cramped. This Hotel isn't. The room we stayed in last week was more than adequate. It contained 2 large comfortable beds,
an easy chair with a foot rest, a dining table with 2 chairs. A desk with an office chair. Plenty of clothing storage space. Additionally the Environment was well controlled by a quiet Aircon/ Heater Unit. A well provisioned Kitchenette area with fridge, microwave, hob unit and toaster with sufficient utensils for the two of us.
The 32" TV had more channels than we cared to watch. A nice touch was the Iphone docking station. The rooms was cleaned daily to a good standard and even though we were close to the elevator the room was quiet.
There is no restaurant or Bar in this Hotel but we didn't find this a problem as there is an excellent diner next door (The Viand) and some local bars quite close.
Though not in the heart of town the hotel is only 2 blocks from the park in a very pleasant district with some very reasonably priced restaurants close by. Access downtown was easy with frequent 1/2/3 subway trains very close at 72 st. The Metrocard was great value at $27 for a weeks unlimited travel.
All the staff were pleasant, and happy to give advice and recommendations.
Overall I give this Hotel a high rating as it was of a much higher standard than I was expecting for the price.

We stayed there over Christmas in 2009. The room was well cleaned (but we had two singles rather than a double) and the kitchen was a nice surprise. The bathroom was great (my girlfriend enjoyed having a nice hot bath after a day shopping). Only a few blocks away from Central Park and right near the red subway line in to Times Square. Highly recommended.

It's basically a hotel room with an old bed where they've shoved a refrigerator and a dilapidated stove. It was kind of pricey, too, but it is the upper west side.

Thank you, Mdennino, comments are always appreciated so the Hotel Beacon can improve. This review from 2007 is now essentially for a different hotel. In the past two years all the beds have been replaced with Simmons Westbury plush beds made up with 310 thread count linen, the rooms have been redecorated, the all marble bathrooms have been buffed and feature Gilcrhrist and Soames amenities, and there is an Time Warner Hi Def cable on all the 32" flatscreens.

Stayed in NY for 18 days over Xmas and new year and the Beacon Hotel was recommended to us. Great place, convienient location, easy to get into the city by underground or walking, 2 block fro Central Park - albeit there was no restaurant/bar, but plenty in the areas. Would i stay there again, yep, for sure.
Gret staff and comfortable rooms/lobby etc.

Good quality hotel, with reasonably friendly service. Great location right on Broadway, with all the day-to-day shopping and dining virtually at your doorstep. The subway was a skip and a jump away, wizzing us in to Times Square in minutes.

This was our first trip to NYC and we loved this part of the city. Great residential feel to it, away from the tourist traps, but close enough to feel the buzz.

Great to find two internet PCs adjacent to the lobby, especially as we didn't travel with a wifi PC. The little room was cramped and very hot, but convenient and (despite the advertised cost) we didn't have to pay for use of the terminals.

Good laundry facility which was essential for our eight night stay.

Tke kitchen was pokey, but well equipped.

We'd go back again, anytime.

On our first visit to New York the Hotel Beacon was an excellent base for exploring the city.

The rooms were comfortable, very large for NYC and the rate was very reasonable. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment and enjoyed magnificent views across the West Side to Central Park.

Convenience to the Subway was a great bonus as was the proximity to the Fairway Market and Citarella Deli across the road. There is also a well-stocked liquor store 2 doors down on Broadway.

The only downside was not being able to secure another 4 night stay when we returned to NYC the next week. ;-(

We will definitely stay at the Beacon again.
