My husband proposed to me in the Elysee's beautiful clubroom ten years ago. Since then, we have returned a number of times to enjoy the hotel's wonderful ambiance and service. The Elysee is a welcomed respite from the glorious chaos of NYC.

While I have not technically stayed at this hotel yet, I still wanted to give a good review.
My mom and I were planning on arriving in nyc on Sat. 8/27 by train and leaving on Sun. 8/28 by train. Due to Hurricane Irene we made the hard decision to cancel our trip. We wanted to wait until the last moment to decide incase things were not as bad as we thought they might be. Even though there is a 48 hour cancelation policy they worked with us and did not bill us. Everyone I spoke to at the hotel was very kind and helpful. I appreciated their understanding. We plan on going to nyc this fall instead and will definately be staying here. They won me over!

In a fast moving, loud and brash New York there exists a peaceful sanctuary. We arrived in NY a bit grumpy after an early start and four hour flight to be greeted by friendly and helpful staff. The room, while not spacious, was well-appointed, clean and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was nice and plentiful and ensured that we had fuel to start roaming this huge city,. After a long day exploring the pre-dinner drinks and nibbles gave us a chance to unwind and talk to the other guests. We plan to return to NY and will definitely stay here.

I actually booked Hotel Élysée based upon the Trip Advisor reviews. My first choice was the Casablanca Hotel, also an HKH property that I've stayed at before but the Hotel Élysée was more cost effective.

We arrived on a Friday afternoon. Wilton at the front desk checked us in. We were fortunate as our room was actually ready. We were assisted with our baggage to our room on the 15th floor, the top floor of the hotel.

The lobby was lovely with a beautiful fresh floral arrangement. The lilies smelled lovely. There was another small arrangement adorning a small table on the way to the elevator. The exterior elevator doors had been painted with a lovely hand painted mural. The interior of the elevator was not huge yet it easily accommodated eight. The elevator walls were upholstered. It was nice and clean.

We stepped off the elevator on the 15th floor. The ceiling fixtures we're pretty, cut crystal, decorating molding was affixed to the walls. It was a short walk to our room.

Our room faced 54th Street. There was nice separation between the bathroom/closet and the bedroom. There was even a door separating the bathroom area from the bedroom.

The room's furnishing were comfortable. There were two upholstered chairs in the room, in addition to the desk chair. Our room had a king bed. The linens were quite nice. There were at least two pillows for each of us and a bolster pillow as well. We were the for four nights. We slept soundly and comfortably. We awoke with no back aches due to an uncomfortable mattress. As we were doing a lot of walking on the trip, the comfortable bed was a welcome respite.

The hotel has a breakfast room on the second floor. There is a small library and a small conference rom adjacent to the breakfast room. We enjoyed the continental breakfast greatly each morning. There were cereals (hot and cold), coffee (flavored, unflavored and decaf), coffee syrups, cappuccinos (the staff would prepare these), fresh fruit, tea, hot cocoa, breakfast pastries, fruit juices, and wonderfully wonderful breakfast breads. There were no waffles or eggs or breakfast meats. We didn't miss them, but some might expect this which is why I'm mentioning it.

The breakfast room was busy on and off during the time the breakfast was out. Throughout the day, cold beverages, water, coffee, tea, fruit, rolls and snacks are available. Monday through Friday, there is a cocktail reception with wines, cheese, crackers, and snacks. We didn't get to partake in this as we maximized our time in the city seeing a lot of things. If it's like the one at the Casablanca Hotel, it's worth visiting.

The breakfast room staff was cordial and helpful. Someone made the rounds gathering up dishes as we were finished with them. The tables were wiped down between guests. The breakfast room was clean. The sofas by the windows are a bit stained on the arms where people's hands touch. They look a tad worn, so a good cleaning might be warranted. Tables are kept wiped down.

The dishes and utensils we're high quality with a nice heavy weight to them. It might seem silly but I don't like flimsy dishes. The coffee was kept nice and hot in the mug! There's s even a piano in the library off the breakfast room.

Our room's bathroom was lovely and had nice products in it. The floor and walls were covered with beautiful gray marble tile. There were black accent tiles. The fixtures we're lovely and well maintained. The bathroom was nice and clean.

I almost forgot. Two complimentary bottles of water and a quite tasty chocolate bar (also complimentary) were in our room. If you like mini bars, the room does have one. I did read the instructions for it. Be careful to not jostle things or take something out and put it back as you will be charged just by pulling it out of the spot it's in. It's loaded with sensors. There were the complimentary snacks in the breakfast room and we found so many wonderful places to grab a snack or bite to eat that the mini bar just wasn't or interest.

The room does have a dresser for you to put your suitcase contents in if you choose to. The closet is generously sized and bigger than many hotel closets I've seen. There was a tv. I couldn't tell you if it worked or not. We never turned it on. For those with an iPod or iPhone, there was a clock radio in the room that would also charge the device. Very handy. It was too small for an iPad though.

The location is wonderful. It is just a few blocks from Rockefeller Center and six or seven blocks from Central Park. It's on 54th between Park and Madison. The street is quiet. The subway is just a few blocks away.

If we wanted to go to the gym, Wilton had advised that we just needed to stop at the front desk and they would give directions to the club they were associated with. We were 5-7 miles a day, so that was adequate exercise! We slept very well as a result!

Considering what many hotels cost in Manhattan, we got a great deal with the 14 day booking. We would have saved a bit more if I had prepaid but we didn't. The Hotel Élysée was a great value.

Did I mention the breakfast breads? The prune and walnut bread roll was fabulous. I just really liked it that much. I had one for breakfast every day. Yum.

I recommend the Hotel Élysée to you and I would most definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Our room faced 54th Street and was on the 15t floor. It was relatively quiet. I don't remember b...

From our phonecall to reserve when we had such friendly, helpful service, to our actual stay, everything about the Élysée exceeded our expectations. All the front desk staff were so friendly and helpful with restaurant suggestions, etc., the breakfast and cocktail ladies were so welcoming and efficient, the chambermaids were extremely efficient and so cheerful, and the doormen were quick to jump to our service. The hotel harkens back to an era of comfort, quality, and caring. The evening wine and cheese parties were a great way to end the day, and were a gererous and pleasant touch. The WI-Fi service was perfect! The bad was super comfy and clean! Others have commented the carpet is worn and the AC is a bit loud; while this is true, they were minor problems compare to the overall quality of the hotel. The location was great for shopping, theater, transit (around the block), Central Park, everything. We will stay again without question.

Room Tip: The quietest rooms would be room 3 on each floor at the back at the far end of the hall.

Small, charming, pretty, lovely staff, great location. The breakfast and wine hour are nice bonuses. We've stayed there three times and have two more stays scheduled.
