Quaint boutique hotel in Midtown. Excellent staff but the hotel is in serious need of renovation. Only one elevator and very limited continental breakfast. Complimentary wine & Hors D'oeuvres between 5&8 is very pleasant. Great location for visit to MOMA.

The location is great a couple of blocks from 5th Avenue. The service was personal and the rooms (for New York) are a decent size, quiet with marble tiled bathrooms. There is a turn down service each evening with fresh towels. We had two adjoining rooms. One was a suite with a sitting room and you could have had a child or teen stay on the sofa bed. We pre-paid to get a less expensive room rate. Now we are getting lots of offers to stay again- hopefully we will!
Breakfast is in the club room. It can get busy at peak times, but the ladies clear tables quickly and are really helpful bringing lattes and toast made to order. Great fruit salad, hard boiled eggs, cereals and pastries. If you miss breakfast, or want a quiet place to sit later in the day, the club room serves free tea and coffee all day. The wine (Prosecco, white wine and red with soft drinks for kids) and snacks are available between 5 and 8p.m.
There were only two slight negatives. The air-conditioning in our room could get noisy when it kicked in and there is only one lift which can be slow- but they are minor gripes.
Overall, it was a lovely place to stay at a decent price.

Room Tip: Pre-pay and upgrade to a small suite.

New York can feel crowded, overbearing, intimidating and inconvenient at times to the occasional visitor. This is especially true if you live in the mid-west. The staff at the Elysee provide the counter point with their kind attention and personal grace. They were genuinely concerned for our comfort. They guided us to the best restaurants, gave us advice as to the various methods of transportation to get to our destinations and most importantly made me look brilliant to my wife for choosing this hotel. The room was beautiful....we had a little court yard that felt like an oasis in Chaosland! The amenities were incredible....wine, cheese and coffee in the afternoon ....an unbelievable breakfast variety in the morning.....all presented in the warm surrounding that is the Elysee Library. From the front door of the hotel you were in walking distance of an unlimited number of tourist attractions, theaters....in fact you are just across the street from incredible restaurants. If you plan on visiting NYC....I would recommend staying here.....whatever else happens on your trip, you are sure to find serenity, charm and grace at the Elysee

We spent 10 nights at the Hotel Elysee, and we will definitely stay again when we next visit NYC. The hotel has a nice boutique/upscale feel without being pretentious. We had a great room high up on the 54th street side. The room had a nice sun deck which was lovely and something we used most evenings to unwind with a glass of wine etc. The staff was friendly and professional throughout our stay and, as another visitor noted, the location is central to many of the usual attractions but, at the same time, not too close to the crowds of Times Square etc. Overall a perfect base from which to enjoy your time in New York City !

I've been staying at the Hotel Elysee on a regular basis for over ten years. They remember me and I am never disappointed with my stay. Rooms are nicely appointed and the staff is very attentive and helpful. Morning breakfast and the late afternoon wine and snack time are among the Hotel's special attraction.

Room Tip: The Elysee has always gone out of their way to accommodate any of my room requests.

We have just spent a week in New York at this hotel. The hotel is relatively small for New York and for us that was a positive. A French theme in decor. Very good value breakfast with lovely fresh fruit and the wine and nibbbles in the evening a major bonus.
We were initially put in room 50 which overlooked rather a lot of air conditioning units but after one night of noise we asked to be moved and we were immediately accommodated, higher up but at the front of the hotel- it is New York so I think you have to expect a certain amount of noise.
The staff on the desk were always friendly and willing to help and I would definitely stay here again. The only downside is that because of it's great location it is not really near any good value restaurants- everything seemed to be highly priced and outside of our budget.

Room Tip: I would go high to get as far from noise as possible avoid room 50!

Great location! Incredible staff! Wonderful rooms and a great hospitality area with breakfast and an evening cocktail hour. [5-7 I believe]. This hotel is a great find in a wonderful location. Close to Central Park & MOMA but just far enough from Times Square/Broadway that you can walk but not be surrounded by the crowds in those areas. While others have commented about there being only one lift/elevator, we stayed on the 12th floor and this wasn't an issue at all. Personally, in NYC, I prefer being on a higher floor, as the street noise seems to be less of an issue. The rooms are great...very nice size with nice bathrooms. I was a bit surprised to see a DVD player and a VCR attached to our television, but I guess if you travel with DVDs or videotapes, then it's an even better place to stay. The lack of Pay-Per-View would be my only complaint, but there were plenty of cable channels on the system. Free wi-fi is a great addition...one that ALL hotels should offer.
