We have been to NYC several times and usually stay near Times Square. This trip we wanted to spend more time going to Lincoln Center. Hotel is 5-10 walk from LC. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Our package included the breakfast buffet which was very good ( hot and cold food ). The rooms are large by NY standards and have in room coffee. A bit dated but clean and comfortable. Excellent free wifi. Would stay there again.

The good: great location, spacious rooms (esp for NYC), friendly helpful staff.

The bad: A/C in my room was weak, and since the room faced south the view great but turned the into oven. Elevators were cramped with no fans or a/c. Lack of outlets (always a problem in older hotels).

The worst: ice machines are in the hallway, not cordoned off all. I went to get ice after an evening out on the town, and found a signed posted that said "please don't after 10pm, ice maker is noisy". Really?! I'd expect more out of Holiday Inn and out of a hotel charging those room rates. Give up the revenue and dedicate a room on each (or every other) floor for ice & vending like most hotels do.

Also avoid the gift shop if you need food items. $3.50 for a regular bag of M&Ms. There is a Walgreen's and a 24hr CVS close by.

(Did not use the pool facilities, so cannot review them)

As others have mentioned, the hotel was dated, worn, and loud, with music blaring in the vestibule and throughout the very busy lobby. When we arrived, we unloaded and corralled our own bags and two tired, hot children. There was no doorman present, and we were well inside the lobby before we found a valet who called us over to where he stood and motioned for us to load our luggage onto the cart.

The surfaces of our room were reasonably clean, though corners and out-of-reach places were dusty, dingy and dirty. I don't doubt there was mold; it was impossible to shower without covering the floor with water, and there was no fan in the bathroom to absorb moisture, leaving the whole room hot and humid after a bath. This was compounded by the fact that the AC had yet to be turned on, even in late June; our room never got below 80 degrees, and the windows did not open.

The heat might have been alleviated by an early morning or relaxing evening swim in the rooftop pool, but I wouldn't know; it's accessible only from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and since we set out to sightsee long before it opened and returned long after it closed we never had a chance to visit it, much to the disappointment of the children in our party. In all my travels around the world, I have never stayed in a hotel with such limited pool access.

In general, the hotel staff seemed put out by the whole affair of assisting paying guests. The day before our departure, our room key cards were inexplicably deactivated. At the front desk, the clerk took our cards, asked for our room number, typed and swiped, then handed us new cards without ever once looking at us or saying another word, much less apologizing for any inconvenience. Likewise, a crowd of hotel staff could regularly be found congregating in the lobby, but not a single one greeted or acknowledged us during our many comings and goings over the five days of our stay. They gathered in chatty bunches discussing the World Cup, the bar scene, and after-work plans, to name a few of the conversation topics I overheard. Frankly, they were in the way and added to the hectic, crowded, tense atmosphere of the lobby. It was just plain annoying to have to navigate around them as well as everyone else. If you aren't going to be friendly, helpful or useful, then at least get out of the way.

There were two pleasant exceptions to the mediocre nature of our stay. The concierge who helped us arrange for travel back to the airport was lovely; I am sorry I did not get her name. She introduced us to a doorman whose name I believe was either Hernan or Herman. He was a delight and extraordinarily helpful. We were grateful for the high quality, professional level of service he provided and extremely pleased with the car and driver he secured for us.

This was not my first hotel stay in the city, so I am not inclined to quickly excuse the debilitated state of the hotel or lack of service as what can be expected from New York. I have stayed in Manhattan hotels both more and less expensive that delivered superior customer care. In my opinion, the Holiday Inn Midtown is simply lacking in pride of presentation and interest in its clients.

Bit of a dingy, old smelly room with a tiny bathroom. We had a view that was of the dirty garbage below and not much else. The location was pretty good though. We were away, mostly, from the hustle and bustle, but we could walk to everywhere we wanted to go. I wouldn't stay there again.

This hotel has everything you would want if you want to relax. The rooftop pool is virtually unique is NYC. The General Manager - Mr Cecala is typically hands on and makes you very welcome and your experience of the hotel very personal. The Bar and Food prices very reasonable. Would stay here again and have booked already!!

This is hands down my least favourite holiday inn I have stopped in.

Good points
The bedroom.. This is nice and upto date beds comfortable so can't really grumble with the bedroom.

Location is good a few avenues and streets from times square.

Bad points
Bathroom... In need of a total revamp so dated it's unbelievable, we your having a shower you can see all the dust gathering on the water edge. Not to good... wall paper and the bath quality is dated.

Ice machine outside our room... We stopped in room 519, we unfortunately had the ice machine which randomly dropped ice every 10 minutes or so or if anyone needed ice you had the noise of stuff being dropped on hollow plastic. Sleep quality cause of this is a massive blow.

Lack of loungers by the pool... This isn't to much of issue but a highlighter for staff. There were too many seats reserved for members hotel guests were having to sit u near the bar there were probably 10 or so not being used but a sign saying reserved for hotel gym members or along them lines.

I'm sure if the ice machine was away from the room or if the hotel invested in a quieter model this would be a three star you do lose your sleep which is a shame for what you pay.

I'd recommend visitors to possibly look at alternatives at a similar price then make your mind up..

Also I'm not just one of these moaners I'm genuinely saying it how it was.

Room was pretty big compared to other NYC hotels. There were 4 in our group, wife and 2 teenagers and we had plenty of space. Price was decent. Location is great. Lots of restaurants nearby. Subway station nearby. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We were in the South Tower on the 3rd floor. Pretty quiet. Roof top pool is in the South Tower.
