“Surprising little Hell's Kitchen gem”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

My sister and I stayed at Skyline in November on our first trip to New York. We were looking for a place that was within our price range and close enough to everything we wanted to see... Skyline was the one that struck our fancy.
There are couple of bad reviews of this place out there, which did put us off initially, but I have to say that made it even better when we got there! The guys and girls at reception are so sweet and helpful, and the property has such a homely feel when you first walk in- think big clocks on the wall, a lounge-like waiting room.

The rooms were a great surprise! We booked the lead-in room, and were only expecting as such, but it was fully equipped with two double beds, a shower AND bath, TV and a great little vanity room with Broadway lights around the mirror (which is perfect for two dancing girls)

It's located just a short stroll from Times Square, Broadway Dance Centre, 42nd Street, and all that main jazz that you're after when it's your first visit. Starbucks is a block and a half saunter away, and there is an awesome pizza joint across the road called Fat Sal's (seriously, don't judge a book by it's cover, because that stuff is GOLD)

Highly recommend this place!

Have just returned from New York. Stayed for 5 nights at the Skyline. Like alot of people I was initially wary having viewed the hotel on Google street view, but was very pleasantly surprised.
The rooms are clean with 2 very comfortable beds. The bathrooms are a bit tired but served the purpose. The view from my room on the 5th floor of Times Square skyline was amazing. Only word of warning, the cleaners come to the rooms at about 7 .30 am and if you dont secure your door will walk straight in.
A 10 minute walk down 49th street ( or any parallel) will bring you to the amazing Times Square. If you are going before Christmas, check out Lilleys bar on 49th. Amazing decorations and a great friendly bar
Another great day was the Saturday brunch at BB Kings bar on 42nd Street. Unlimited buffet, Unlimited Bucks fizz and a superb beatles tribute act for 2 hours.
Greenwich Village is a must. Enjoy

Room Tip: Try and get a top floor room for the amazing views. I didnt have a breakfast but turn left out the h...

I have just come back from a week stay here, I travel a lot and I wasn't put off by this hotel.

It isn't a 4/5* but it's exactly what you need for a site seeing holiday/break. It's located in walking distance to Times Square near subway line. Across the road are bars, restaurants and deli's. Always able to flag a cab as soon as you walk out the hotel. The hotel lobby is very nice and the warmth hits you straight away after a cold day. The rooms are clean but basic. You get a safe, iron, ironing board, plastic cups and ice bucket. You do not get a kettle (which is rare!) but you can get one from reception for no extra charge.

Only downsides to this hotel are the heater can be a little noisy at times, the wifi isn't free and the hotel is dog friendly. We ended up having a poodle next to our room which barked and yapped a lot.

Meemo restaurant is attached to the hotel but I wouldn't recommend it for breakfast. For $15.95 you get an all you can eat buffet but the quality of food isn't great we only ended up having 1 plate. We ended up finding a restaurant called Galaxy a couple of blocks up which was great value and delicious.

I would recommend this hotel despite the small issues I didn't like though it is not a 5* it is basic. Clean, comfortable and in a good location.

Stayed at the Skyline Hotel, great base for exploring Manhattan.Ate breakfast in the hotel each morning. Waiting staff were very attentive and friendly. Food was lovely! Reception staff were quite abrupt somewhat rude, could do with customer service training, and not very interested in you. Room was basic and quite tired looking, in- room fridge was great however, and the safe was ... safe!! No tea/coffee facilities in the room, which would have made our stay more comfortable, instead we had to hunt down a coffee house, or order one from the resturant ! Would prob not stay again if we went back to NYC, PS .. loved NYC and Hells Kitchen!!!

This was the second place we stayed in New York within two weeks, and this time it was while on a tour. The location was not as close to the metro as where we had stayed before, but gave us access to different areas of New York, on foot.
Overall the hotel appeared "tired" but was reasonably clean. Beds were comfortable. There was some sort of problem with the door stop on the floor, which made it impossible to open the wardrobe. Strange arrangement.

We have just returned from a 5 day break staying at this hotel and were more than happy with the hotel, staff and surrounding blocks!

Now, it isn't the prettiest hotel and it isn't in the prettiest of locations, however do not let that put you off as the pro's for this hotel far outweigh the cons!

The hotel is in a great location for Times Square (10 minute walk) and the ferry tours are roughly the same distance, restaurant row is 1 block away which has some amazing eateries and food to suit all tastes and some great deli's literally "over the road" get yourselves a slice of cheesecake from the skyline deli (truly amazing)

The hotel itself is in need of a refurb, but is kept clean and the staff all did their jobs perfectly, the gripes from other reviewers on here are a bit harsh (in my opinion) especially with regards to the staff issues!

Finally, this is a reasonably priced hotel in a good location (take it for what it is) if you want luxury for peanuts then find it elsewhere, it is what it is, a great base for visiting Manhattan island!!

Would visit this hotel again all day long

Spent the weekend here with friends after scouting sooo many hotels with no vacancy! They accommodated us even with booking issues that occurred and "upgraded" us to a suite. The bartender on duty was very pleasant. Didn't do much looking around the hotel but the bed was SUPER COMFY! Great place to stay after a long night of partying.
