“Comfortable Hotel with Character.”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

Arrived early but this was not a problem at the desk as room was ready. It was my husbands sixtieth birthday treat we were upgraded to a suite (with no extra cost ) this was more like an apartment it was really comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming and were always on hand to give advice. The room maids were very pleasant and thorough in their work.
This hotel may be old but it is clean and solid and retains its great character unlike most modern accommodation with paper thin walls. It is ideally situated for all amenities including subways, there is a 24hour supermarket nearby and an extremely good Italian restaurant close to the hotel.
This hotel came recommended by a friend who had stayed many times we were warned about the traffic noise at the front but to rectifie this we took silicone ear plugs with us although they were not required.

Room Tip: Take earplugs to counteract any noise if you have a room at the front.

This was a very comfortable hotel but rooms were very overheated, uncomfortably so, and our window looked out on to 57th street, noise was a bit much. A shame really because everything else about this hotel was great.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 days in mid March. The check in was very quick and efficient and staff were helpful. As mentioned in many posts the rooms are dated but they are spacious with lots of storage space. The rooms are clean and warm which we were grateful for as the weather was very cold outside. We were on the 13th floor facing 57st and it was a bit noisy but hey, it NYC. We didn’t have breakfast in the hotel as there are plenty of diners close by, especially a popular one around the corner on 7th avenue which was always busy. The deli two doors down from the hotel is very handy for getting snacks and drinks to bring back to your room. There is also a starbucks across the road. The hotel location is ideal for sightseeing as its walking distance to central park and times square and the subway is just around the corner. All in all we were very happy with the hotel and will stay there again. There are also some good Irish bars close by for those who want casual dining and atmosphere, but if the guy playing music says it’s the barman’s birthday...don’t take his word for it! He says that every week of extra tips.

Room Tip: For quieter rooms ask for a room at the back of the Hotel.

We have stayed here several times over the years. Our latest stay (25-30 March) was again not disappointing. staff again very welcoming. A large bedroom with two double beds didn't make you feel "tight for space" unlike some other city hotel rooms we have experienced. The bathroom could do with some refurbishment but the shower always had plenty of hot water. Do try the buffet breakfast, a very wide range of continental offerings. Going out the front door and you have a choice. Subway on the corner of 57 & 7 Avenue, bus stops metres away and Central Park & Columbus Circle (shopping) within 10 minutes or less. Plenty of good places to eat near by or Times Square/Broadway just a 20 minute walk away. We will return!

Room Tip: 57th Street can be a bit noisy at night, so we would recommend asking for a room on the opposite to...

Recently returned from this hotel (27-30th March 2014). Booked as 4 female adults all wanting seperate rooms/beds. They offered 1 bedroom apartment with king bed and double sofabed exactly what we needed. Unfortunatly on arrival - very unwelcoming/unhelpful reception staff- we found the sofa bed had a mattress as thick as a sheet of paper. On complaining to hotel only alternative was a single roll away bed which we had to accept. This ruined our experience and would definately not stay there again.

Room Tip: If asking for sofa bed ensure it is mattress quality (as we have previously experienced in othere NY...

Perfect location for a break in the Big Apple, lovely rooms, breakfast option just superb fresh fruit, tea, maple syrup pancakes etc.Right near Carnegie Hall so take in a concert. Would definitely recommend this hotel it was very reasonably priced with friendly staff. Near Central Park and Time Square easy to walk to. Took subway to South Ferry then free ferry over to Statten Island. You must go.

This is a great hotel for the price, it is situated within walking distance of the Broadway Theatres,
Times Square, Central Park, Rockerfeller Centre and close to the subways if you want to explore further. The Hotel is not new but the rooms are air conditioned and have TV's, irons, ironing boards, hairdriers etc. When we arrived we asked for a room at the back and were given one on the 17th floor at the back which was very quiet, the carpet was clean and the beds very clean and comfortable. The room itself was spacious with a large closet and a safe. The housekeeping service was good and the rest of the staff friendly and helpful.
There was a Starbucks accross the road and a supermarket near by.
